Last Saturday was Independent Bookstore Day and I had planned on going to lit. on fire used books to do the weekly Saturday Storefront thingy there. Then I found out that last Saturday was the literally the last Saturday for Bergner’s, so I wanted to document that before it closed. So in a better late than never fashion, this week we turn the MBIP Camera to the storefront of lit. on fire used books, one of my favorite local shops!
lit. on fire used books Storefront
This is the second location for lit. on fire used books which is owned and operated by Jessica Stephenson. She started in a small space inside the Sunbeam Building on July 3rd, 2015 and then added on to that and doubled the space in the summer of 2016. She also started having events including the monthly Get Lit. Open Mic night, that sometimes has a special guest. I was honored to be the first special guest back in 2015. Last year she moved into this storefront next to the Costume Trunk after Jessica Ball retired her Art Garage business to concentrate on her artwork. It’s been cool to see Jessica grow her business through the last three years and if you’ve never been in here, you should stop by. It’s a lot more fun than clicking around on Amazon!
Photoshop Phun
Here’s a piece of art I made in Photoshop using the logo from the storefront.
The Left Window
There’s a shop local sign, a pillow with an obligatory window mirror shot of my legs, the hours and I really like the last photo here. Sometimes taking shots in windows combines what’s behind you as you photograph what’s in front of you and kind of blows my mind, which is always a good thing.
The Right Window
The “open” sign in the right window was a gift from Jessica Ball, who I mentioned earlier ran the Art Garage out of here. That was her passing the torch to Jessica and I just now realized that both of them are named Jessica! Oh the things you realize while typing copy for a blog post!
The Front Door And The Inside Window Displays
There’s the front door and let’s walk in because get lit. not only has displays in the windows to look at from the outside...
You can also enjoy a display from the inside as well.
And this window is made up for a comfy spot to relax and take a look at a book or two. Yet another option you won’t find on Amazon!
Jessica With Jaysen
When I walked in the store, Jessica was in the middle of an interview with Jaysen Ryan, who’s starting a business video series on facecrack. You can see the video they made by clicking right here. I barged in right around the 40 minute mark and below are two pictures from my unscheduled appearance in the interview!
I love this because I took a picture of the phone filming us live and the photo below is a screen grab from the video that was playing on facecrack live at the time. So it’s like we broke the internet wall and got both sides of the photo! We may have just made history here folks!
