Two of my friends, Kevin and Star have taken a keen interest in this twenty week tenderloin tour that’s happening here on MBIP. They claim they know a place that has one of the best tenderloins in the area. It’s not in Peoria and they’ve offered to come on over to the MBIP Headquarters and take us to this mysterious tenderloin outlet. So read on and you’ll we’ll find out where we’re going!
To quote Dave Edmunds: I hear you knockin'!
Here they are, Kevin and Star, our tenderloin tour guides for the day!
Okay, after a beer at the MBIP Headquarters, we're off and running towards the mysterious tenderloin destination.
After a bit of a drive, we are here in Athens, Illinois at the Boars Nest Bar and Restaurant. It's a nice looking place.
Kevin and Star lead the way inside.
As you can see from these flyers, The Boars Nest features live music from time to time. Those of you who have followed this blog will recall that Kevin and his band Southern Cross were featured on MBIP a while back and they're going to be playing here live on Saturday, November 2nd from 8PM to Midnight. I'll be coming to that show and so should you!
Here's the front room where you can pick up orders to go or dine in at the wooden booths opposite the pick-up bar.
Love that sign that leads us in to the main dining room!
As you can see, it's a spacious dining area with lots of tables and booths.
Oh, deer!
Speaking of deer, this door leads to a place near and dear to my heart...
The bar! And it's a nice wooden horseshoe bar with plenty of open seats on a Sunday afternoon. Perfect!
As soon as we sit down, Kelsi, the pretty and friendly bartender on duty serves us up some drinks...
Cheers from today's tenderloin trio!
Just as we were enjoying our drinks, we met Darin, the owner of Boar's Nest.
There's tables opposite the bar to sit and dine and drink at.
Darin invited us outside to check out the beer garden in the back.
Wow, it's a big beer garden back here!
Darin sliced it up and surprisingly it didn't taste like chicken, more like a blend of roast beef and steak, it was very tasty! Sorry Yogi!
After the bear appetizer, we came back inside and ordered up our dinner.
Wow, talk about your speedy service! Let's check out everyone's dinner...
Star got the Tenderloin Horseshoe...
Kevin got the Tenderloin Boar Burger, which you can see is a tenderloin topped with a multitude of cheese, meats and barbecue sauce.
Being a purist, I opted for the plain tenderloin, with a side of homemade Tater Tots.
And here it is all dressed up with mustard, pepper and onions. It looks great!
Wow, that was one delicious tenderloin, one of the best I've ever had and there's plenty left over for lunch tomorrow.
And through the magic of the internet, the next day is here and we're warming up the leftovers for lunch under the MBIP broiler.
Let's apply a little taste of Cleveland to the warmed up treat!
It tastes just as great, if not better, the next day! Thanks to Kevin and Star for a wonderful tenderloin night out on the town! We'll see you all tomorrow!
Tenderloin Rating:
Four Porky Pigs, this isn’t a contest, like the Peoria Hot Dog Wars, but so far, this is the best tenderloin I’ve had on this tour, it’s going to be tough to find one better than this one!
