Last Friday I was the guest DJ on The 'CT Lunch With Dani. Hopefully you tuned in but if you didn’t or even if you did, we will now go back to last Friday for some photos from my visit to WWCT. The last time I was on WWCT was back in the early ‘90s when Lytle and Lamb and Jamie Markley ruled the WWCT airwaves and the station was located at the top of the hill off Main Street.
Well, it’s a few decades later and WWCT is now located in Pioneer Park on Altorfer Drive. Let’s head on over and I’ll show you a behind the scenes look at something you usually just get to listen to. We’ll be live, on MBIP in three, two, one...
The windshield on the MBIP mobile was covered in ice and this was the little porthole I chipped out so I could see where I was going. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this or not...I fucking hate winter!
Here we are at the home of WWCT, the Advanced Media Partners building on Altorfer Drive in Pioneer Park. The company is called AMP for short and yes, they go to 11.
I like this shot because you can see the snow in the reflection and the reception lights blending in with them. I have to admit it’s causing a little bit of an acid flashback and that’s always a nice way to start the day. Now if only these goddamned bats would quit circling around me!
Okay we’re inside and at the reception area. Except I don’t see a receptionist, what a gyp!
Whoops, I take that gyp back! As I approach the desk, I see there is indeed a receptionist, a cute receptionist who’s name is Magill, and she calls herself Lil, but everyone knows her as Kelsey. Got that? Good, there’s going to be a pop quiz later.
Free candy alert! Oh, Candy.
Here’s mailman Ray, who Kelsey refers to as her, “Ray of light!” Okay everybody, all at once... "Oh, awwww!” Check out the glow sticks on Ray’s jacket, I think he came straight from a rave. He looks a little crunk, but hey, what happens on MBIP, well...kind of goes out everywhere, so I hope he doesn’t lose his job over this!
I’ve been told that Dani, who’s the host of the ‘CT Lunch is right down the hall here. Let’s go find her...
She’s been found! Here’s Dani, the ultra-cool and pretty host of the ‘CT Lunch. I listen to Dani every day, so it was great to meet her in person. What I love about Dani and her show is that she’s really into the music she plays and has fun insights and knowledge about what she’s putting out there. She’s just as nice as she sounds on the air and check it out, she’s plugging my book, The Boy Who Would Be A Fire Truck! Who could ask for anything more?
Check out this old-school turntable with the vintage WWCT stickers! For all you kids out there, a turntable is what people used to play their downloaded music on in the old days. And the downloads were these big round things called albums that you’d download at a place called a “record store.” I know it’s a lot to comprehend, so just go back to updating your facebook page and forget it.
Dani graciously offered to give us a little tour of the place.
(Warning, only EV Grieve readers are going to get a chuckle out of this!) Is that Lady Gaga?
In addition to WWCT, AMP is home to Jack radio. Jack’s guest host for the afternoon is Claude Rains.
And yes, there’s more radio stations here, here’s a live show going on at KISS FM.
Here’s Dani at her official desk looking very official!
Well now, we’ve met this guy before when we were at Cam's Place a while back! It’s Ryan Jeffery A.K.A. DJ Real Juicy, the genius mastermind behind the world phenomenon known collectively as, “White Folks Get Crunk.” (And I have to give a shoutout to Ryan’s parents, Sue and Ed! Let me know when you’re back in Peoria and we’ll get crunk!)
Here’s Nikki, who was happy I picked a Monkees song as one of the tunes on my guest DJ playlist, so you know she has good taste in music! You can hear Nikki on WWCT Saturdays and Sundays between 6AM and 10AM.
Okay we’re back in the studio because it’s getting close to show time. Here’s Dani with Jon, who told me he’s been with WWCT since 1985! We’ve probably met, but personally I have trouble remembering what I did last night, much less anything from 1985! You can read more about Jon right here!
Marc and Scott are in here too and it’s starting to get a little crowded in this place! Marc is the host of the Morning Blend and is the Program Director. Scott told me he’s the Operations Manager A.K.A. The OM. Om...wasn’t that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s title?
Okay Dani just threw everyone out because it’s just about showtime!
This is my little area with my notebook, trusty pen, business cards, my ever-present empty bottle of tea and a cup full of mumbles such are promises.
Here’s the lunch hour schedule with my songs highlighted. My song list is: Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles, Ridin’ In My Car by NRBQ, Beloved Freak by Garbage, What Am I Doing Hanging Round by The Monkees and Love Is A Losing Game by Amy Winehouse. A pretty decent little round-up of tunes, if I do say so myself and I just did, so there!
Okay, we’re just about ready to go live...which causes this Bill O’Reilly flashback...
We are live, on the airwaves here! Dani made it real easy and is a great host, it was a blast and I hope I can do this again!
The show has been archived at WWCT and you can listen to the entire show by clicking right here or on the turntable below. Thanks again to Dani and everyone at WWCT 99.9 FM! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
