I just noticed a shop I’ve never seen before over on Glen Avenue nearby Acme Comics and The Lariat Steakhouse. It’s called Ethel’s Emporium and I thought we’d go check it out today. And so here we go!

2. roads-jan814.jpg

As you can see, the roads are somewhat better, but they're still slick in some spots. I can't wait for summer to get here so I can start complaining about the heat!

3. herewezr-jan814.jpg

Here we are, looks like a cool little place.

5. letsgoin-jan814.jpg

I love the hand painted sign on the door! Let's go in and see what's shaking in here.

6. lotsofstuff-jan814.jpg

Wow, lot's of fun little treasures to be found in here!

7. peggy-jan814.jpg

Here's the owner, Peggy behind the front counter. Hey, wait a second, the owner of "Ethel's Emporium" is named Peggy? Peggy told me that the name came from a time when she was working on a project with a friend and it turned into an "I Love Lucy" type of situation and her friend started calling her "Ethel." Hence, "Ethel's Emporium." And if you're like me, this following scene is going through your mind right now...Looooseeee!

8. frontcounter-jan814.jpg

The front counter is packed with jewelry and other shiny bric-a-brac.

9. crackerjack-jan814.jpg

Check out that Cracker Jack thingy, that looks interesting, but we'll have to come back for it because it's time for...Elvis Trilogy Time!

10. elvistrilogy-jan814.jpg

According to the clock on the wall, we have just three minutes to find three Elvis items in the store! Luckily that very same clock is an Elvis clock! And yes, I'm making this shit up as we go, play along with me, please!

11. two-jan814.jpg

And here's Elvis item number two, Elvis sings "Flaming Star." Take it away Elvis...

12. thankya-jan814.jpg

Thank ya...thank ya very much! And this item completes Elvis Trilogy Time and we did it in under three minutes. We now return to the Shop Hop, already in progress...

13. books-jan814.jpg

Here's some vintage books for the young reader in your family or if you're a book collector. They're in great shape too!

14. clownsglasses-jan814.jpg

Check out those two clowns over there, they look like a cross between Mr. Magoo and Boy George!

15. hoot-jan814.jpg

What a hoot...sorry about that, it couldn't be helped!

16. purses-jan814.jpg

Check out the cool pop art purses, you won't find anything like these at the mall!

17. nichunter-jan814.jpg

This is really cool and just eleven bucks!

20. backroom-jan814.jpg

There's another room back here, let's go take a look-see.

21. lots-jan814.jpg

There's lots more to see back here.

22. vintageclothing-jan814.jpg

There's a couple of racks of vintage clothing at rock-bottom prices.

23. highroller-jan814.jpg

I love the old time toys on display back here.

24. suchadeal-jan814.jpg

Check it out, vintage patterns at just twenty five cents each. That's sew cheap! Once again, sorry about that! Just like the Four Tops, I can't help myself!

25. backtocase-jan814.jpg

Alright, we've come full circle and here we are back at the front case.

26. outofcase-jan814.jpg

Peggy's taking the Cracker Jack thingy out for a closer look. I'm really intrigued by it.

27. popupyellow-jan814.jpg

At first glance it just looks like a miniature Cracker Jack box. But Peggy told me press that yellow burst over on the bottom left corner of the box. Okay, that's what I'll do!

28. toocool-jan814.jpg

Ha! A little Cracker Jack guy with a compass pops up! Too cool and it's just five bucks, I'll take it!

29. deedee-jan814.jpg

And here it is, proudly displayed on an MBIP bookshelf next to a picture of Dee Dee Ramone. Thanks to Peggy for a fun tour of Ethel's Emporium and we'll see you all tomorrow!
