Okay, today’s post is really a last minute thing-a-me-bob. The post I was originally going to do got cancelled at the last minute and now I have to figure out something to do for today. Rather than run around like a chicken with his gizzards in the grinder, I’ve decided to be civil about this and just let my fingers do the walking. We haven’t done a Yellow Pages post since July, so I think we’re due for one of these. We’re up to the letter, “G,” and I found this entry very intriguing:
That ad’s a little fuzzy because I had to blow it up like a thousand percent in Photoshop, but it’s for the Wee Tee Golf Center. I’ve had Wee Tee on my list of things to do since last summer. Last year the time flew by and it was closed for the season before I ever got out there. I was afraid it might be closed now since we’re officially in the fall, but I just called and a nice woman named Kelly said they were open. And so it’s off we go to find our “G” spot at Wee Tee Golf Center!
Off we go into the somewhat wild blue yonder.
And here we are in the parking lot of Wee Tee Golf Center. This place has been here for as long as I can remember, and it's been quite a while since I've stopped in here.
Let's step in the front gate and see what's going on in here.
As you can see, it takes a lot of balls to run a place like this!
Check it out, the rates here are very reasonable.
This pretty lady is Kelly, the woman I spoke to on the phone. She and her husband, Bruce have owned Wee Tee for the last 30 years. And more important than that, her husband Bruce was my neighbor growing up from 1969 to 1976! We must cue this up immediately! I haven't seen Bruce since we moved from our house in that neighborhood, so if you're reading this Bruce, we need to hook up and get together again! Kelly told me that Wee Tee has been in this location since 1949, making it a classic Peoria spot for golfing, miniature golf and batting practice.
As I was chatting with Kelly, Steve came up and I asked him to hold his balls for this photo, but he grabbed that bucket instead. Oh well, what are you going to do? Kelly said I could wander around and take some photos, so let's go. It's been years since I've been here and I'm anxious to take a look around the place!
It's just me out here so I can't really play the miniature golf course, but I thought we'd walk around it and I'd take some photos. Kelly said they're closing for the season in a few weeks, but next year I plan on coming out here with some people and we'll put this course to the test. Till then, let's go check it out.
It's really nice miniature golf course and kept up very well.
Check out the cave, I'll have to remember to bring a flashlight next year to make this shot!
I hate driving over bridges, but this one isn't scary at all. Water flows all around the course giving the place a nice peaceful feeling. If only they served beer here it would perfect. I need to talk to Kelly and Bruce about that!
It's very colorful out here, I like all the rocks and foliage. Even if you don't play miniature golf, it's a fun walk out here.
The water continues to flow over here, contained in the rocks on each side of this mini river.
Here's another bridge over miniature golf waters.
Pink Flamingo alert! I wonder if Divine is hiding in the bushes back there?
Three fountains just went off over there. This place is open till 11PM at night, next year I'm coming here in the evening, I bet it's really cool when it's all lit up.
Ha! Check out the 18th Hole rules. Kelly told me that Wee Tee is only open for a few more weeks, so you should come out here and check out this fine Peoria mini-golfing tradition before it closes for the season.
Off to the side of the miniature golf course is this playhouse and slide for the kids.
Here's some batting cages to bring out your inner Jimmy Piersall.
There's a state of the art driving range for the more serious golfers. I see a guy down at the end, let's go say hi.
This is Joe who's working on his swing, let's check it out.
Joe springs into golfer stance here...
He swings...
Nice shot, Joe! Thanks to Kelly for letting me roam the grounds out here at Wee Tee, I had forgotten how cool it was out here. It's still open for a couple of weeks, so get out to this iconic Peoria spot before old man winter is breathing down our collective necks. We'll see you all tomorrow!
