Live from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night with this week’s host, Good Tequila’s Mexican Grill and featuring the Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. Now, please welcome this week’s host, Good Tequila’s Mexican Grill!
We are off and zooming along on a Saturday night at a speed that's too blurry to comprehend. And we haven't even had a drink yet!
Here we are at Good Tequila's Mexican Grill which is located off of Glen Avenue, just across the street from a place we recently blogged about, The School House.
There's a beer patio up in front here and while it's a little chilly for outdoor drinking, that overflowing ashtray on the table shows that this place is put to good use.
If the outside of this place looks familiar, you probably used to come here when it was the Shamrock. The Shamrock moved and is now Donnelly's Irish Pub, not far away, but it's nice that a local restaurant took the building over.
Let's go in and let Saturday night begin!
Stephanie is the pretty hostess on duty and she's busy ringing up someone's order and said we could sit anywhere...
So let's just go down the hallway here and find our favorite place to sit at a restaurant...
The bar! And since it's getting near closing time we have our choice of seats, let's grab one and get settled in for the evening.
And serving us up a margarita is Stephanie who does double duty as both the hostess and the bartender. I'd say this lovely lady deserves a raise!
Jose who's the owner of Good Tequila's is serving us up some chips and salsa. Jose owns and operates two other Good Tequila's, one in The Shoppes at Grand Prairie and another outside of Chicago. He's been in the restaurant business for 20 years and has been a restaurant owner for 15 years. From the look of him he must've started at six-years-old!
The salsa here is homemade and really tasty and spicy. We're off to a great start!
This is the view of the bar from where I'm seated.
Here's five of the beers on tap...
And there's another quartet of taps over here.
There's large and comfortable booths in the dining room opposite the bar.
This painting decorates the wall in here, very nice!
There's another dining room back here.
More booths that line the wall here...
And there's tables over here, but since it's near closing time chairs have been stacked on top of them.
There's yet another dining room over here just opposite the bar that can also be rented out for private parties.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like dinner is just about to happen. Check out the hot sauces in the condiment ring, not a bottle of Frank's to be seen, how refreshing!
I got the Colorado Chili and rice. The dish is chunks of steak in a red chili sauce and it looks and smells wonderful!
It comes with warm flour tortillas...
So I decided to make a burrito out of the dish.
I ended up making three of them and this was one tasty Mexican dinner. You can read more about it in the review below.
On my way out, I noticed this place which is located a couple of doors down from Good Tequila's. I looked in the front window and saw this...
A vintage jukebox! I need to come back here and see what this place is all about, stay tuned for that! We'll see you all tomorrow!
My Meal
There’s an extensive selection of Mexican food to choose from at Good Tequila's Mexican Grill. In addition to your standard, burrito, taco, enchilada offerings there’s south of the border seafood dishes, vegetarian entrees, chicken dishes and a half a dozen Mexican styled steak entrees. I decided to try one of the steak dishes and I chose the Chili Colorado which was recommended by Jose, the owner.
It’s a fairly simple entree, chunks of steak smothered in a homemade red chili sauce. Sometimes simple wins and it sure did in this instance. The chunks of steak were juicy and tender and the red chili was spicy, but not “blow the top off of your head” spicy. It had a zippy tomato flavor and was a nice complement for the steak. It came with flour tortillas and I took them and made three tasty burritos. It was a delicious Mexican meal.

Three Galloping Gourmets—A tasty dinner and something different than your standard average Mexican restaurant fare.
