Today is a bit of a mash-up here at MBIP, we’re taking two series and combining them into one post. A couple weeks ago I started a new series called, “Eating Peoria One Street At A Time,” and decided that we’d work our way up from the foot of Main Street and stop at every restaurant along the way. The next stop on this journey is Richard’s On Main and I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone (does anyone really kill birds with stones these days?) and also have our monthly Contributor’s Lunch there as well. Yes, it’s two...two...two posts in one, all for the same low, low price. I will not be undersold, these prices are INSAAAANE! Come on, let’s go before I totally turn into Crazy Eddie over here!
It's kind of a grey and dismal day outside, which is just the way I like it, none of that bright sunshine stuff to deal with!
Drive-by shot of Richards, time to park the car and start this luncheon episode!
There's already money in the meter, you gotta love that!
Just after I took this photo I turned around and look who's here, MBIP pal and Contributing Writer, Scott Turley! He's fifteen minutes early which means he's on the same time clock as I am!
And so it's down the stairs we go to the underground restaurant known as Richard's On Main. Let's try not to break our necks on the way down.
Yes, we made it down the stairs and so it's through the door we go.
What I love about this place is that since there's no windows down here, it's just like nighttime in here, even at 11:15 in the morning.
There's going to be four of us here today, so we have to wait to be seated, which creates a somewhat Beatlesque moment.
Hellooo...we're waiting over here...
Okay, here we go, Chad arrived on the scene and is taking us to the lower level to our table.
And check it out, through the magic of the internet, today's gang of MBIP Contributing Writers are all here, clockwise from left: Bob Gordon, Scott Turley, Yours Fooly and Chip Joyce. Okay, time for me to abandon the table and get some shots of Richard's On Main.
As you can see from this colorful chalkboard, there's a big variety of beer to be had here at Richard's and further proof lies in...
The giant display of beer on tap in here! Sure to get a good rating on the Spike-O=Meter!
Of course I had to get a shot of the tin ceiling in here, but check it out, there's a couple of silver panels mixed in with the gold. Oh the things you notice in the daytime in here!
And I had to get a photo of this famous painting which is hung in the back of the bar.
Here's a photo on the wall of the Kickapoo Building which if you're following this blog you'll recall we just had a celebration there in honor of its newly landmarked status.
In the clearing stands a boxer and a dart board by his side in this Simon and Garfunkel retrospective moment where I have squandered my resistance for a pocket full of mumbles such are promises.
There's a mural of downtown Peoria on the back wall in here which I've never noticed before, very cool!
It's starting to fill up in here, I think I need to return to the table, I bet lunch will be happening soon.
Well, it appears that lunch is happening right now! I got a cup of the homemade chicken noodle soup, it's all peppered up, but something is missing...
Crackers!
Okay, we're good to go now.
I also got the grilled chicken salad which comes with two pieces of Texas toast and dressing on the side.
Chip got the grilled chicken sandwich...it looks like we're starting to see a chicken theme taking place here...
And the chicken luncheon theme is continued here as Bob ordered off the kiddie menu and got the chicken tenders.
We almost had a perfect quartet of chicken dinners, but Scott swerved in this luncheon game of chicken and got the BLT. Oh well, I'll forgive him as he's driving for this week's pizza road trip...stay tuned for that next week!
After lunch we had a nice chat with topics ranging from future posts here at MBIP, Mr. Donut, hipsters, Chip's engagement, Caterpillar, New York and in the end...
Arms were folded and it was time to call it a day.
But after the MBIP Contributor's cleared out, I still had one more stop to make...
You can't be this close to The Nut House without stopping in and saying hi to Debbie and getting a sweet treat for dessert!
Mmmm...malted milk balls! We'll see you all tomorrow!
