Last July my friend Amber and I went to Allegiant Firearms to do some indoor shooting at their firing range. Jeff who owns Allegiant Firearms along with his wife Stacy gave us some great instructions on guns and how to properly hold and fire them and we really had a good time and we planned on going back and doing it again and today is that day! Jeff said that each time we go back we can shoot more powerful guns. So let’s go and see what kind of guns we get to shoot off this time!
Here we are, back at the cement stairway to Allegiant Firearms. And please, pull up your pants on the way in!
As soon as we step into the spacious front showroom, Amber reconnects with an old friend from our last visit!
This is one of the most relaxed dogs I’ve ever been around. I guess with all the guns in here he doesn’t have to worry about standing guard in here!
And speaking of guns, check out the inventory in here! They’re all set for the holiday season!
Different styles of pistols line the tops of the glass display cabinets.
If you’ve got a gun lover on your Christmas list, the odds are you can do all your shopping right here!
They have big guns in here and small ones too, check out the world’s smallest working Derringer!
That smiling fellow right there is Jeff, who owns Allegiant Firearms with his wife Stacy. Jeff kept true to his promise of letting us shoot off guns more powerful than last time...
This time we’re going to be firing off shots from a 40 caliber Ruger and a 45 caliber Springfield pistol.
Jeff leads the way back to the indoor firing range...
And gives us some instructions and safety gear. Jeff is really knowledgeable about guns and is a great teacher and instructor. In fact he’s one of the few teachers that has never made me go stand outside in the coat rack, for being a wise guy...at least not yet!
Here’s Amber and I with our safety gear and the ammunition for the day. We’re ready to let the bullets fly!
We’re now inside the firing range and Jeff is taking out the bullets.
Here he’s showing Amber how to load up the pistols. I’m hanging in the back taking photos so I don’t have to do any work. It’s what I do!
Amber’s loading up the ammo...
Jeff’s got the target in place and it’s time to start shooting!
Amber went first and here she is getting ready to start firing. Jeff is giving her some last minute instructions...
And she’s off firing her first shots of the day!
I’m up next and Jeff had to show me how to grip the gun properly again, because I’m a retard that can’t remember one moment from the next.
We started off shooting the 40 caliber pistol and it had a lot more kick than the guns from our last visit. I really enjoy shooting off guns. It’s gives me both a feeling of exhilaration when you fire it and then relaxation afterwards.
Okay, let’s look at some of our targets from the first round of shooting.
The top two are Amber’s and just like last time, she’s pretty much hitting the target with every shot! She’s really a good shot! Me, not so much! My real moment of shame is that one in the bottom left, I only hit the target once at the very bottom!
After a few more rounds, Jeff made an adjustment on the pistol...
And then he fired off a few rounds to test it out.
Bullseye! This is why he’s the instructor! Okay, now give us the gun back, Jeff and quit showing off!
Here’s Amber getting ready to fire off a round with the 45 caliber pistol.
This one has even more of a kick, but Amber’s handling it with ease.
I’m up next...
Towards the end of this round of shooting, Jeff told me to use my right eye to focus in on the target and it really made a big difference.
Once again, the top two are Amber’s and she tore them up as always, but I’m proud of the bottom right one where I actually hit the target with the majority of the shots! We really had fun and thanks to Amber for coming along with me and to Jeff for being a great shooting instructor. Next time we get to fire rifles, so stay tuned for that! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

The MBIP Lecture Series 101...Or Was That 102?
Last September I had lunch with Gina Morss at Cyd’s Gourmet Kitchen. Most of you have seen Gina co-anchor the news on WEEK TV, but you may not know that she also is a teacher at Bradley. Gina teaches a class called, Communication 215, Basic Reporting. After she heard my whacked-out tales of my sideways entry into journalism, she asked me to speak to her class of students at Bradley to let them see that there’s more than one way to enter the world of writing and journalism. Because as we all know by now, you can’t just walk in off the street and write for the Peoria Journal Star! I spoke to her class yesterday and it was both nerve-wracking and fun! Below are a few photos from the afternoon at Bradley.
Here’s the hallway leading to the classroom. Walking down the hallway I was reminded how all schools have that vague antiseptic smell to them. It always makes me feel a little queasy!
There’s Gina, looking fabulous as always! As I was getting ready to give my talk she snapped a photo of me.
And here I am, the MBIP Speaker of da House!
I took a photo of the class and then gave my little talk. They were really attentive and no one fell asleep, so I applaud this entire class of future journalists! Maybe one of them will actually be able to walk in off the street and write for the Peoria Journal Star when they graduate!
At the end I gave a demonstration on how I spent my one and only year at college! This is why I empty garbage for a living now! Thanks again to Gina and her class, it was a lot of fun!
