Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night, starring this week’s host, The Fish House with special guests, Lisa, Lorrie, Anne, Sheila, Penny, Paul, Mary, Bill, Amber and Joe and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host, The Fish House!
Lisa swung by and picked me up and the MBIP Camera fuzzed out my shot of her driving us to The Fish House. Hate the MBIP Camera! Hate, hate...HATE it!
We’re getting close...
And here we are at this week’s Saturday Night destination, The Fish House. I love this place!
As I was taking a shot of this wooden Fish House side on the corner of the building, I met...
Lorrie, Anne and Sheila who were wondering why I was taking pictures and I told them it was for the MBIP blog and Sheila told me that her and her daughter are regular MBIP readers! How cool! And Sheila also said that she owns a coffee shop in Wyoming, Illinois called, “One Eleven Coffee.” She invited me to stop by and maybe we’ll take a road trip there this week. Stay tuned!
Okay, let’s go in and start this week’s Saturday Night adventure!
Godfuckingdamnit! The MBIP Camera has fuzzed out yet another shot! So filled with hatred for the motherfucking MBIP Camera right now! Hate, hate, hate...HATE!
Holy shitballs, it’s like the MBIP Camera has a mind of its own...but I kind of like this one!
Alright, this one’s not too bad and this is definitely a bar my former 365 co-pilot, Al would love. It’s probably the darkest bar in Peoria.
Okay, we’ve settled into our seats at the bar and here’s Penny, the super-cute bartender on duty at The Fish House tonight. I’d never met Penny before and was amazed when she told me she’s worked here for over 20 years! She must’ve started working here when she was knee high to a grasshopper! It turns out she knows my parents and is familiar with my dad’s catch-phrase, “The Widow Wagon,” which is an inside family joke. Great to meet Penny...but where the hell is MBIP pal and Contributing Writer, Paul, who's always on bartending duty here?
He’s right here! Love this shot of him and Penny and the night is off to a wonderful start!
Two friends of mine, Mary and Bill Voorhees were seated nearby at the bar and it was great to see both of them! I haven’t seen Mary in years and we last saw Bill at the Rhythm Kitchen. And for the record, they know about my dad’s “Widow Wagon,” phrase too! My dad gets around! It was fun to catch up with both of them!
There’s tables behind the bar and it’s equally dark back here.
I love this corner table in the back room!
Here’s the main dining room, business is booming tonight, love to see that!
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Paul served us up an appetizer of homemade potato chips and dip.
These are so good! I’d never had them and Lisa suggested them and they were hot and crispy and the dip was creamy and cool and the perfect accompaniment for them.
While we munched on the chips and dip, Paul took the MBIP Camera for some behind the bar shots. This is the trio of taps back there.
Here’s some of the premium bottles of whiskey standing attention in front of the glasses behind them.
A model ship hangs on the back wall and looms over...
This antique cash register, which is so cool!
While Paul was taking photos, Penny gave birth to this Double Magnum bottle of wine! I love her!
And suddenly...dinner appears! Lisa and I decided to split the Neptune’s Platter. This is probably my favorite dish in here and you can read more about it in the review below.
For the side items we got the fried zucchini and the world-famous Fish House au gratin potatoes.
Right after dinner was served, my friends, Amber and Joe showed up which was a wonderful surprise! We moved the entire Saturday Night operation to a corner table so we could all chat and have dinner and drinks. Paul took this shot of us at our table.
And then he showed up with a tray of Old Fashioned drinks! What a guy!
And what a great drink! Thanks to Lisa for driving and to Lorrie, Anne, Sheila, Penny, Paul, Mary, Bill, Amber and Joe for hanging out and making it such a fun night!
Lisa and I split the Neptune’s Platter, which is a combination seafood platter consisting of Lobster, Gulf Shrimp, Bay Scallops, a Deviled Crab Cake and Tilapia. It’s a great mix of seafood and one of my favorite dishes here. For the side items we got an order of the Au Gratin Potatoes and the Fried Zucchini. The Au Gratin potatoes never fail to disappoint and Lisa suggested the Fried Zucchini and it was so tasty! Another wonderful meal at The Fish House!
