I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since we’ve done an MBIP Coffee Talk episode! Well, time to resolve all of that and see what kind of coffee Leaves ‘n Beans in Peoria Heights will brew up for a non-coffee drinker like myself! And then we’ll have lunch! And then all will be good! Or something like that.
Here we are at Leaves ‘n Beans Coffee in Peoria Heights. I’ve never been in here, but I’ve always liked the colorful A frame house here on Prospect.
Well, as you can see they are certainly living up to the “leaves” portion of their name out here, let’s go in and see what the beans are like!
There’s tables over to the right as you walk in and a comfortable lounge area with couches and a plush chair to the left. The Cafe entrance is just over there, so let’s go in and sample a cup of coffee.
This is Marisa and Katy who are working the front counter today. I asked them if they could make me a cup of coffee that didn’t have a strong coffee taste to it and Katy suggested a cup of Dirty Chai coffee and went to work brewing it up!
I’m always amazed on these coffee trips at how much work and care these people put into making one cup of coffee! The The key ingredient here, besides, coffee of course, is vanilla chai, which Katy told me would make the coffee a little sweeter and give it a taste closer to tea, which is something I drink all the time. And there’s our cup of coffee being served up with a pretty smile from Katy!
I chose a table in the cafe area to sample this episode’s cup of coffee and it was really good! This may have been my favorite one of all of them so far, all though, to be perfectly truthful, it’s been so long since I’ve done one of these, I really don’t remember what the coffee at the other places even tasted like! But this was really good, nice and frothy and it had a little bit of sweetness and just a light coffee flavor going on. Great work by Katy!
As you can see from the menus above the front counter, in addition to lots of drinks and various flavors of coffee, they have a nice selection of food available. I ordered and then turned around and saw LIndsay, who I hadn’t seen since I met her last January at the No Wake Zone Chili Cook Off! Great to see her and she told me she’s working for MarketPlace Selections and was there on official duty, so I let her get to business. I love the Leaves ‘n Beans mural on the wall and check it out: They made the cover of Dining & Food! "Talkin’ Coffee," yep, that’s what we’re doing...and we’re also getting lunch, which, I think is just about to be served....
Told you so, here it is at our table! I got a cup of the homemade chicken noodle soup and a chicken with red peppers panini. The food was really delicious and it’s all fresh prepared on the premises. There’s also baked goods that are also made right here at Leaves ‘n Beans. You can check out the whole menu online right here.
Katy suggested I check out the Specialty Coffee and Tea Shop in the basement and so here we go! As you can see, there’s lots of fresh coffee down here to take home with you. There’s also coffee flavorings, fresh tea and other items and that’s Tammy behind the front counter. And behind her is a PJ Star article about Leaves ‘n Beans that was autographed by former Peoria Mayor, Jim Maloof. Nice chunk of Peoria history there and thanks to everyone at Leaves ‘n Beans for a cup of great coffee and a wonderfully delicious lunch! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
