There’s a new bar that recently opened in Peoria Heights called, Pour Bros. Taproom. In fact they had their grand opening last Saturday as you can see in this announcement pictured below:
Well, we missed that because we were busy building a sandwich at The Fieldhouse Bar & Grill last Saturday night, plus I didn’t know that it was happening. But it’s just five days later, so there should still be a little bit of a grand feeling left in the air over there, so let’s go and check out this new addition to Peoria Heights!
Pour Bros. Taproom is located here in Heritage Square in the Heights. As you can see, there’s outside seating and tables here, but let’s go inside and take a look and see what this place is all about!
It’s nice in here and there’s a decent crowd of people in here checking out the new bar on the block! As I went up to the bar, I saw a familiar face behind it, it's Jake, who also works at Jimmy’s and who we last saw at the Erin Feis last summer, great to see him again!
I like the way the back of the bar is decorated and check out the beer menu, lots of cans and bottles of craft and domestic beers available here. There’s coolers filled with them behind the bar. But the real interesting thing in here is...
This Tap area on the side wall, which is called, “Pour The Experience.” This is a computerized tap wall, with 16 taps for sampling. They’re all marked with names and prices above the taps. Here’s Rob, who’s the co-owner of Pour Bros. along with his friend, Nathan to show us how it works. Basically you start at the check in booth (which I’ll show you in a minute) and you get a wrist bracelet, then you select a glass and activate a tap with your bracelet and you can pour your own beer. The beer is charged by the ounce and you can pre-pay or run a tab. You can sample small amounts until you find one you really like and then you can fill a larger glass with that and go nuts! This is really state of the art for craft beer enthusiasts and there’s nothing else like it in Peoria!
This is the check in area that I just told you about earlier, I probably should have put this picture in before I put in the tap shots, but what are you going to do? What I usually do is just keep moving along, watch me go...
Here’s a shot from the back of the taproom. This is a nice area behind the bar with sturdy wooden communal tables and benches.
I really like the light bulbs hanging over the bar and in the main room, it really gives the place a nice ambiance. Steve, Rachel, Chuck, Foxy and Matt were enjoying the beers and evening out here in Pour Bros. and Matt was familiar with the MBIP blog, so he gets extra points! And one of these years, those points will be worth something so hang on to them Matt!
The brick walls and the wood in here make for great atmosphere and Rob told me all the wood in here is re-purposed. They got it from an old Sears and Roebuck warehouse in Chicago, very cool!
Here’s some people trying out the “Pour The Experience” taps. It’s fun to watch people pick, choose and pour their beers.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, Jake is busy mixing drinks and pouring beer and I ran into Eric, who I met last February when the MBIP blog was on break. Great to see him again and this was a fun night at Pour Bros. Taproom. Rob told me that the 16 taps rotate very frequently, so if you’re a craft beer lover, you’ve just got a new spot to hang out at! Plus he told me that every Saturday (except for the one coming up because of the holiday weekend) there’s going to be live music outside in the square. Brainchild will be playing here on July 9th and other bands will follow weekly. You can check their facecrack page for updates on bands, beers and other happenings at Pour Bros. Taproom!
