It’s a holiday weekend and it’s a Saturday so I thought I’d stay home for this post and put up an easy cheesy peesy, in-house blog today from MBIP World Headquarters. I’ve been putting up a collage in the MBIP Test Kitchen Center and it’s about halfway done. I’ve been working on it since last May and these things take time. I love collages and how random pictures and chunks of writing can flow into one another and become one cohesive piece of art. Hey, I went to art college for about five months and nine hours, so I have a right to be a little artsy fartsy, so here goes!
Here’s the front room to the MBIP World Headquarters. This is my favorite apartment I’ve ever had and I’m happy with the way all my stuff fit in here and kind of balanced out.
This is a shelf unit I’ve never shown on the blog before. I got it a few months ago to fill a space underneath...
This collection of pictures on the wall.
Okay, we’re getting close...
Here’s the MBIP Test Kitchen Center...
And here’s the collage on the cabinets. Let’s take a closer look shall we?
One of the rules I have about making collages (people in art college hated me for making rules about art, hopefully all of them are dead by now) is that you shouldn’t spend any time thinking about the text or pictures you’re putting up. That way when it’s all done you can read and look at the pictures and it’s always amazing (at least to me) how it all works out and flows into one another. Maybe I did too much acid in the ‘70’s, but that’s the way it is for me!
Right next to the cabinet collage are two pieces of writing that I like to read over and over again. The top one is written by Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens) and it’s from the end of, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Here it is:
Tom’s most well, now, and got his bullet around his neck on a watch-guard for a watch, and is always seeing what time it is, and so there ain't nothing more to write about, and I am rotten glad of it, because if I’d a knowed what a trouble it was to make a book I wouldn’t a tackled it and ain’t agoing to no more. But i reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she’s going to adopt me and sivilize me and I can’t stand it. I been there before.
Below it on the wall is a framed paragraph from the novel, “Cool Hand Luke” written by Donn Pearce. My favorite lines from this section are highlighted from years ago and here they are:
After dragging in the nickels, dimes and quarters, Luke showed his hand to Bullshit Bill. He had a pair of nothing. Smiling, he murmured softly.
Just remember, man. Wherever you go and whatever you do. Always play a real cool hand.
And from that night on he always answered to the name of Cool Hand Luke.
We’ll see you all tomorrow!
