Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of the release of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska album. That’s one of my favorite albums and so in honor of that we’ve got six links below about what is the darkest-spirited album that Springsteen has ever recorded. Below that are the MBIP Coming Attractions for next week’s batch of posts!
35 Years Ago: Bruce Springsteen Strips Down and Gets Dark on ‘Nebraska’ - This article sums up the album and it was just published yesterday on the anniversary of the release.
Revisiting Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska - In this piece, it’s noted how the recession of 1982 probably inspired some of the dark tones of the record.
Nebraska Songfacts - It’s revealed here that E Street guitarist, Steven Van Zandt originally suggested that Springsteen release his demo tapes for the album instead of recording it with the E Street Band.
Rolling Stone’s Four and a Half Star Review - Here’s the glowing review the album got in Rolling Stone back in 1982.
The Original Wrecking Ball: Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” - When Springsteen released his 17th album, Wrecking Ball, writer Ian Crouch noted the similarities to Nebraska in this piece in the New Yorker.
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska Mini Documentary - This is a nice little three and a half minute documentary that sums up the album nicely. And it’s perfect for this short attention span time we live in.
Last night I had dinner at Shelton’s and then went and saw Tom Green at the Jukebox Comedy Club and it was a lot of fun. I got to meet Tom and got some fun photos of him hanging out at the bar at the club after the show. Tuesday is the wrap-up from the ten weeks of ice cream tour. Wednesday is a special post that I’m really excited about! Some of you familiar with the music history here in Peoria may recall a local band from the ‘60’s called The Coachmen. They were one of Peoria’s most popular local bands and they opened up for iconic ‘60’s bands like The Yardbirds, The Who, The Turtles and Paul Revere and The Raiders. And you may have heard about the lead singer and songwriter for the band, his name was Dan Fogelberg! Well, I got in touch with the surviving members of the band and I have an oral history of The Coachmen complete with vintage photos and posters from the ‘60’s coming up on Wednesday! Then on Thursday I’ll be doing some video thingy and I need to find a topic for that, so I’m going to run! Have a funny Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
