Well, we’ve hit double digits on this seven month steak tour! During the last nine weeks we’ve had a variety of steaks and different variations ranging from steak dinners, to steak sandwiches to steak tacos but so far we haven’t had the classic meal of steak and eggs. All that changes today as we hit the popular Sunday Brunch at The Publik House. And we also have a special guest joining the festivities on this tenth meaty week, so let’s get over to Publik House and get this post rolling!
I’ve heard spectacular things about the Sunday brunch at The Publik House, so I’m excited to experience it. I think I’ve been here on almost every food tour, but this is the first time I’ve been here in the daytime. I love the front window with the gold leaf lettering beneath the Guinness neon sign. The sign says the host will seat us, so let’s go meet the host...
And the host is none other than Georgia who is armed with a brunch menu! How handy is that! She said she’d lead me to our booth...
Here we are and it’s very festive and sparkly, I love it! Of course I’m early as always, so let’s take a look around before our guest of honor appears.
As you can see, this is a popular Sunday brunch destination! The giant Nutcracker statues on the bar are very nice! The bar here is really cool, I love all the wood and the centerpiece with the lamp and mermaids is one of my favorite things! And as I was wandering around the bar, I ran into the owner of The Publik House, Travis! Always great to see him and catch up on things. He said business has been great so I’m happy to hear that.
Another thing I love in here is the Guinness box in front of the beer taps and there’s some of the taps behind the box.
Meanwhile, back at the booth, it looks like our guest of honor has arrived and she’s checking her phone. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to introduce....
My friend Julie! She’s looking pretty as always and she has the best smile, it lights the room up! And continuing this parade of pretty women is our waitress, Karina! Karina invited me here to sample the cheeseburger over four years ago! I can’t believe four years have gone by since then. Karina is married to Eddie Hennessey, son of Phil and Dee Dee and the nephew of this blog’s Spiritual Guru, Tim Hennessey! I entertained Julie and Karina with the story of me dripping hot wax on the Priest at the baptism of Tim and Tina’s son, Brian. I’d tell the story, but Tina might be reading this and I don’t want her to get mad all over again, so we’ll just keep moving along!
Karina took a photo of Julie and I at our sparkly booth. Julie is no stranger to the MBIP food tours, she was my guest on two of the sandwich stops and you can see those here and here. Julie is the Executive/Personal Assistant to local attorney, James Kelly at his law firm, where we had a successful, “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here” episode. James also owns the Oliver’s restaurants and Julie is the Director of Operations of those which will come in handy later! You’ll see what I mean in a little bit, but now it’s time for brunch!
Here’s Karina with our brunch meals! Julie got the corned beef hash which comes topped with an egg. It looks so good! But now let’s turn our attention to this week’s steak!
I got the steak and eggs and it looks like a plate of heaven! The steak is a ribeye and it looks like it cooked to perfection and I got scrambled eggs with it. The meal also comes with potatoes and I got sour dough toast. It almost looks too beautiful to eat!
But I got over that and dug in and this was a great steak! It was juicy and packed with zesty beefy flavor! It was a medium cut of ribeye and Travis told me he gets his meat from Pottstown Meat and Deli. They have quality products and this delicious steak is proof of that! The scrambled eggs were a pleasant surprise. I like scrambled eggs but I never get real excited about them. That’s all changed now because these were the best scrambled eggs ever! I ordered them with cheese and they were creamy, fluffy and rich and went so well with the steak. This meal is definitely a highlight of the tour!
There’s the man responsible for our wonderful meals, Jason who’s usually the chef at The Local in Bartonville, which Travis also owns, but he was helping out here today. Great job Jason! And there’s the rest of the Sunday Brunch crew, from left: Ryan, Celina, Karina and Korey. Everyone did a wonderful job and thanks to all of you for a great brunch! It truly is a Happy Sunday, but it’s not over yet! We’ve got one more stop before this post is over and that stop is...
Oliver’s Pizza & Pub which is located just a couple blocks away! You may wonder why it’s so dark out when we just left brunch, well it was light when we got here but I forgot to take a photo, so I took this one when I left. In fact when we got here it wasn’t open yet, but that’s when Julie being the Director of Operations here comes in handy, she had a key so in we go...
Here we are and there’s the bar in the center of the front dining room. And there’s Julie behind the bar doing bartender duty! They have lots of craft beer and specialty beers on tap and in bottles, but Julie’s favorite beer is Budweiser, so I got one of those in her honor! Thanks, Julie! Okay, now we’ll take a quick little tour in here, it’s cool being in here before it opens up!
This Oliver’s was stop number 49 on our pizza tour and you can click here to see that post and more photos of Oliver’s here in Peoria Heights. There’s some of the beers on tap and on the way to the back dining room is a claw game and free popcorn. I love free popcorn and if I wasn’t so full from the brunch I’d dig in! There’s gluten free ale in here along with selections of cider, a nice winter drink! In addition to the tables and bar in the front, there’s also a nice dining area here in the back. And outside is a heated beer garden. Very nice and I love the rustic feel in here!
Meanwhile back at the bar, Julie’s getting things ready for the Sunday evening crowd and there’s Erika and Becky who are on duty tonight here posing inside the Oliver’s “O!” Thanks to Julie for joining me for brunch and giving us early access to Oliver’s, the whole day was a ton of fun! And thanks to everyone at The Publik House for a wonderful brunch, I’ll definitely be coming back to sample more of the brunch menu! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Steak Rating
Four Elsie The Cows—If you’ve never been to The Publik House Sunday brunch, you’re really missing out on some delicious brunch treats and I’d say the steak and eggs are at the top of the list! The steak was so juicy and tasty and the scrambled eggs were probably the best I’ve ever had. They complimented the steak beautifully! Make sure you order them with cheese!
