Helping Hands Resale Shoppes were founded seven years ago and they’re a shop that you can find great bargains and one-of-a-kind items and give back to the community where the store is located while having a fun shopping experience. All of the profits from the stores go to local charities in the area and you can find out more about that and the latest Helping Hands Resale Shoppe located in Peoria Heights by scrolling and reading along with today’s Shop Hop post. Plus, if you follow along, there’s information about an MBIP contest where you can help support this store, buy a local book by a local author ( that would be me!) and win a free lunch, an all-expense paid shopping spree at Helping Hands and an appearance here on the MBIP blog! It all happens as you just keep on scrolling, scrolling...scrolling!
Helping Hands Resale Shopppe in Peoria Heights
I recently spoke with Toni Craig-Troxel who’s a volunteer here at this Peoria Heights Helping Hands location (there’s also stores in Chillicothe and Canton). She’s helping to assemble this store, which just opened this week and here’s what she told me about this (and the other locally-run Helping Hands Resale Shoppes):
Helping Hands Resale Shoppe was founded in 2010 as a way to help local and international charities in a very practical way. The main thing is that the proceeds of all of our sales, after expenses are covered, go to charity. Much of it in Peoria Heights. Each week we designate a specific charity. This week it's the Snackpac program at Peoria Heights grade school. The next two weeks it will be the two food pantries in the Heights. And we end the month with the Summer Reading Challenge at the Peoria Heights Public Library. Knowing when your favorite group will be getting the profit allows that group to increase sales by volunteering and shopping that week.
We're located at the stoplight at War Memorial and Monroe in Peoria Heights. We're open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday. That is also when we take donations. The door designated for donations is marked. Please, don't leave donations outside. That's considered dumping and is illegal. We take clothes, shoes, accessories, jewelry, housewares, linens, toys, electronics, CD's, DVD's, games, toys, books, tools, sporting goods, furniture...and much more.
Thanks, Toni! Now let’s go inside and take a look around in here!
This store is really spacious and even though it just opened this week, it’s already loaded with merchandise and treasures to be found in here! And I think I see a familiar face behind the counter over there, it’s Toni, who we just heard from! I met Toni when I was doing a blog and wandering around Junction City a couple of years ago, you can click here and see that post and Toni’s photo there. Great to see her again and she said I could wander around and take some photos, so here’s some highlights from the Peoria Heights Helping Hands Resale Shoppe! Oh and don’t forget about the contest at the end of the blog!
The Front Case
There’s some cool items right here in the front case! I like the necklaces and there’s some things for Easter as well. There’s even more Easter goodies coming up, so keep moving along here! No straggler's allowed!
Clothes, Accessories, Shoes and Bikes
There’s more of a selection of things to look at and buy than I expected! As you can see there’s racks of men’s and women’s clothes, a table of purses and accessories, rows of shoes and there’s even bikes in here! And the prices are very inexpensive!
Furniture and Art
If you’re looking to remodel or fill up your apartment or house, there’s some nice slightly-used furniture and artwork throughout the store.
Toys, CDs and Books
If you bring children along, you can keep them amused (and out of mine and everyone else's hair) by letting them loose in the toy, CD and book areas in here. There’s two sections to the store and rooms with different items inside of them. You could spend all day browsing in here!
Easter Stuff
As promised, here’s just a sampling of some Easter Bunnies and other items for this upcoming holiday. These are a lot cheaper than WalMart and you’re also helping to give back to the community rather than lining the evil Walton’s family pockets with even more money!
The Contest!
Okay, so now you’ve made it this far and it’s time for today’s MBIP contest! That’s Toni with Tiffany who’s another volunteer here and they’re holding a copy of my book, The Boy Who Would Be A Fire Truck. Now here’s the deal: You can’t win this book, you have to go in and buy it. They’re holding it behind the counter (because it’s a “G”-rated store and the book has all kinds of curse words, drug humor and well, if you read this blog, you know), so all you have to do is go in and ask for the book and buy it. My phone number is written in the front of the book and you can call me and we’ll figure out a date to meet back here in the store for lunch (I’ll buy) and you will also get a free shopping spree in here! You’ll have three minutes to scoop up all you can carry to the counter and I’ll pay for it! The address is below and the book is there behind the front counter. The first one to the store wins! If you could send me a photo for tomorrow’s blog of you holding the book, that would be great and we’ll announce the winner then! If no one plays along, I’ll eat lunch in there alone and sob the whole time that no one likes me or wants to read my book!
Thanks to Toni and Tiffany for a fun day at Peoria Heights Helping Hands Resale Shoppe! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
