People are always asking me; "Scott, what's it like going on an MBIP road trip with Marty?"
No, that's not true. Nobody asks me that. Ever. But I'm not going to let that stop me from giving you a behind the scenes look at how hard Marty works.
The last time we went on an MBIP road trip, I decided to take my camera along and take photos of the guy that takes photos.
Let's start at the beginning.
It always starts with that familiar KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. Marty usually puts up a photo of somebody cool like The Beatles or Bob Dylan to get your hopes up.
But then he snaps my picture and disappoints everyone with the reality that it's me going along for the day.
Next we sit around MBIP Headquarters for a little while shooting the shit and getting caught up. I always like this time because I really enjoy looking at all the memorabilia Marty has from all of his adventures. I seem to find new things with every visit.
One of my favorite things is the activity table in the bathroom. This is something that I think only a single person would have. I'm sure Moonbaby wouldn't stand for it in our bathroom.
After we get on the road, Marty always snaps a photo of me driving. If you notice, I always have both hands on the wheel at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. He wants you to know that we're being safe.
Once we reach our destination Marty hops out of the car and takes about 87 photos of the outside of wherever we may be. On a side note; Marty usually takes over 100 photos for every blog. Photo editing is very time consuming and tedious.
Sometimes things don't work out and we find ourselves on the road again trying to come up with a "Plan B".
After some head scratching and driving around in the middle of nowhere we find another place and the whole 87 photo procedure starts again.
While he's busy taking photos outside, I go in and secure us a spot at the bar and order a beer.
When he's finished with the outdoor stuff, Marty comes in and joins me at the bar. He introduces himself, gives the bartender his card and explains his mission. Once they've agreed to his antics, he takes their photo with a beer. After we place our food order, Marty jumps up and takes about 127 photos of the inside of the place.
And I have another beer.
By now he's almost done with his photography work, so we sit at the bar and visit with anybody dumb enough to talk to us. If there's something like this sitting on the bar, we're treated to a rant. And we all know how entertaining those are.
Once the chow comes, Marty takes photos from several different angles. This is also that very important cool-down period. And you know what that means?
Yep. I have another beer.
By then, the 'work' part is all done. The only thing left is to eat. The drive home is usually somewhat quiet. Our bellies are full and we're kinda tired. And as I drop Marty at the door, it's...
...So long until next time.
