Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Sky Harbor Steakhouse and featuring special guest stars, Darryl, Mrs. Klu, Shawn, Beth, Amber and Joe! And now, direct from West Peoria’s FRED District, please welcome this week’s host, Sky Harbor Steakhouse!
Here we are at Sky Harbor, I love their signage out front! Let’s go in and begin yet another Saturday Night here on MBIP!
I love the rock wall in the front foyer! Usually Mrs. Klu or Daryl is around here, but I don’t see them tonight. I went straight to the bar and there’s Shawn with an ice cold bottle of Budweiser. I turned to my left and whoomp! There they are: Mrs. Klu and Daryl! Great to see both of them and now the Sky Harbor evening is officially underway!
At the end of the bar is the Budweiser Trolley, it’s a sure sign of a classic bar is when you see one of these hanging overhead! In the center hanging over the bar is a beautiful painting of the Peoria downtown skyline.
There’s the dining room with tables and the classic blue-leather banquettes. The Sky Harbor Bear is tucked away in a corner and classic airplane photos and models are hung on the walls. The back wall is more rock and there’s two pianos lined up against it. The decor in here is vintage and really makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time to an era of a night out on the town in Peoria from days gone by.
Sky Harbor also has one of the few piano bars in town and this too is classic! Bob Bishop is in from Nashville tonight on vocals and keyboard duty and Mrs. Klu has joined him on her signature washboard! Nice!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, there’s Beth serving up the first course of the Saturday night meal, a dinner roll and a freshly-made salad.
After the salad, I wandered back to the piano bar and now Daryl has joined Bob on vocals and guitar. Daryl’s singing a song he wrote called, “Old Gophers.” Daryl and his music was featured in the baseball documentary, "There Will Be Baseball.” Very cool!
And it’s back to the bar as Beth is delivering the main course of the Saturday night meal!
I got the Au Gratin Potatoes and the biggest steak on the menu, The King Ribeye! It’s sixteen ounces of tasty beef and served on a sizzling hot buttered plate.
The Au Gratin potatoes were cheesy, creamy and a true delight and they complimented the King of the Ribeye's beautifully! The steak was tender, juicy and very tasty. As you can see, I enjoyed it and am a member in the clean plate club! I ate the King and lived to tell my tale!
After dinner I went out and took a stroll on the outside patio. You can dine out here and it’s a nice and comfortable patio out here in the summertime.
Back inside, the piano bar is still hopping and there Daryl and Mrs. Klu making music together!
My friends Amber and Joe showed up for last call and they had a trophy with them! They were at The Doggone Trivia Night at the Kickapoo Creek Winery. The event was sponsored by Foster Pet Outreach and they won first place! Nice going, Amber and Joe! The photo below is from the trivia night and that’s the host in the middle, Matt Gullette. Amber and Joe said it was a fun night and event and that Matt did a great job putting the questions together and keeping score. Check out Foster Pet Outreach’s facecrack page here.
After Sky Harbor closed, we wandered down the street to Shelton’s for a Bill’s Lemonade drink as a full moon blazed overhead. Thanks to Daryl, Mrs. Klu and everyone at Sky Harbor for a fun evening and a wonderful meal! And thanks to Amber and Joe for joining me and congratulations on winning the Doggone Trivia contest! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
I started off with the salad which was crispy and included a whole stalk of celery, which delighted me! Yes, I’m easily delighted when it comes to salad!
For the main course I got the Au Gratin Potatoes and the King Ribeye. This is a classic Sky Harbor combination and bring a big appetite if you order it. The Au Gratin potatoes are a long-time signature dish here at Sky Harbor. The potatoes are sliced in strings and they’re swimming in a rich and creamy cheese sauce and topped with a layer of crisp cheese. The King Ribeye was the real star of the show, it’s a sixteen ounce cut of savory and tasty beef. It’s char-grilled on the outside and tender and juicy as you cut into this mammoth portion of steak!
SN Rating
Three and a half Galloping Gourmets—The King Ribeye is just one of the many steaks that Sky Harbor has to offer. Plus there’s award-winning ribs and tasty homemade fried chicken on the menu along with other delights!
