Okay, I know everyone else had their eclipse story and photos yesterday, but I wanted to save mine for today because I didn’t want to get lumped in with all of that inferior coverage. And yes, I know I sound a little pompous calling everyone else’s coverage inferior, but hey, the truth is the truth! Here’s what happened, I managed to get some exclusive photos that no one else got of the 2017 solar eclipse. I’ll explain as we move along, but now let’s...well, move along to Peoria Riverfront Museum!
And baboom, here we are at the Peoria Riverfront Museum on Washington Street in beautiful downtown Peoria! As you can see, it was a rainy morning, but it’s clearing up now, so hopefully the rain will stay away and let us enjoy this eclipse outside without getting drenched!
Hey, check it out, it’s the WMBD radio van! There’s photos of Greg and Dan and Markley and Van Camp on the side of it! This reminds me of the time I tried to eat my lunch on the Markley and Van Camp show but was sadly shown the door. Maybe these guys are broadcasting from here and I can finally eat lunch with them! Let’s go in and see if we can make that happen! An eclipse and a lunch with Markley and Van Camp, that would almost be too much excitement to handle, but I’m willing to risk an excitement overload, so let’s go in and start our special ecliptical day!
Up the stairs we go and in through the doors and we’re inside. Holy moley, look at the line for the gift shop! What’s the story here?
Oh, they have the eclipse glasses you need to look directly at the sun. These things are sold out everywhere, but they have a few left here at the gift shop. I wonder if I should get in this humongous line for a pair?
Naahh, I think I’ll just risk burning my eyeballs out. It would be more pleasant than waiting in this line!
The viewing party is outside and as you can see, there’s a big crowd out here already!
There’s some familiar faces over there, it’s the WMBD news crew with Eugene Daniel broadcasting live about the eclipse. Eugene put his glasses on and posed for the MBIP camera. Seconds later he spit popcorn all over me, but we won’t get into that.
Here’s another WMBD personality from the radio side, Greg Batton with Jeff Griffin who’s the President and CEO of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Council. I think Greg deserves a raise because he’s the only one from the WMBD van picture that actually showed up here. Dan kind of lives in his own solar eclipse when he’s off the air and no one knew where Markley and Van Camp were. I do know that David Van Camp was recently in Guam, so maybe Jamie Markley went there too and they’re broadcasting the show from there now. Or maybe they’re broadcasting from Avanti’s because that’s the one place I won’t show up for lunch. Hmmm, maybe I’ll put together a “Where’’s Markley and Van Camp” game down the road. Then again, maybe not, let’s just keep moving along here!
Lots of people have their glasses on and they’re getting ready for the big moment when the eclipse happens. The mood here is pretty electric!
Hey, check it out, there’s the Nacho Mama’s grilled cheese food truck! That’s a pleasant surprise and I’m starvin’ like you know who! I got in line and ordered and while waiting for my grilled cheese I met Reema, Hannah and Ryan. Ryan told me he’s a regular reader of MBIP and I always love to hear that! Reema said she was really excited for the eclipse and Hannah was the only one besides me that didn’t have any glasses. And is it me, or is Hannah a Taylor Swift look-a-like? Nice to meet all three of them!
I got the Plain Jane grilled cheese and it was delicious! I love Nacho Mama’s grilled cheese!
Okay, back to the crowd and there’s Jeff with some of the other members of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce and they’re really excited about all of this! What I love though is Ashley, who’s on the far left. She chose to stare at the MBIP Camera instead of the sun. Smart move Ashley, you’re eyeballs are safer than your co-workers!
There’s a familiar face, it’s Eric who we usually see DJing at Oliver’s Pizza and Pub! Eric was there with his wife Maggie and look, I think it’s about to happen!
The moment is just about here! And now I’ll let you in on how I’m going to get some really exclusive photos of this eclipse. Most of you don’t know that I’m really interested in science and I’ve been studying the atmosphere and climatic degrees down here for months. I’ve discovered a spot here on the riverfront that will be the perfect place for the optimum effect for this solar eclipse. So let’s have a countdown as I travel there to get my exclusive photos of the 2017 solar eclipse.
Wow, this is wild! I knew it would be a little darker, but who knew it would be like this! I can hardly see in front of me! This is one wacky and exciting eclipse!
Ouch, someone just stepped on my foot! It’s kind of dangerous here in this eclipse area!
Hey, look, is that Markley and Van Camp over there? I’m going to go get a grilled cheese sandwich and see if I can finally have lunch with them! Thanks to the Peoria Riverfront Museum for a fun solar eclipse party! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
