I’ve always been intrigued by local TV advertising, especially ads from years ago when the TV and production were still somewhat new. I was recently looking at some Peoria ads from the past on YouTube and here’s four of the most interesting ones I found.
1962 Texaco Commercial from Peoria
This is a national Texaco ad that used Peoria as an example of winter weather and how it can be difficult to start your car without the proper gasoline in it. I love the footage from Main and Adams Street!
1991 Thompson Food Basket Commercial
I’m hoping to hear from some of the local people that are featured in this ad! Hey, where’s Tim Hennessey?
Jukebox Comedy Club Commercial From August 1991
They’re still serving up the “bleep bleep bleeps” today! Who are those comedians in this ad?
Sheridan Village Christmas Jingle 1960 On WIRL Radio
Okay, this isn’t a TV ad, it’s a video of a 1960 WIRL radio ad for Sheridan Village that has some great vintage Sheridan Village photos in it. I remember that Christmas jingle and now I fear it’s stuck in my head all day! Earworm alert!
