There’s two iconic places in Peoria known for ice cream and summer treats. One of them is Lou’s Drive-In and we made it there on its closing week for this tour. For our tenth and final stop, we’re going to visit Peoria’s other well-known spot for ice cream, Emo’s Ice Cream Shack at the corner of Prospect and War Memorial. It’s closing for the season this Saturday, so let’s make tracks to Emo’s for our tenth and final week of this ice cream tour!
Drive-up shot of Emo’s and the creepy clown on the roof! As much as that clown creeps me out, I’d be really sad if it wasn’t there, so I’m grateful for the fact that he’s still there on top of Emo’s Ice Cream Shack. Let’s park and start our final week of this ice cream tour!
There’s the clown that’s been staring down at traffic here at War Memorial and Prospect for years now. As creepy as that clown is, you know what would be even creepier? A Starbucks or some chain place, now that sends a chill right down my spine!
I can’t believe the season is almost over! It seems like I was just here on opening week with my friends Amber and Joe. This Saturday is the last day for 2017, so if you haven’t made a trip to Emo’s, you’ve got less than a week to get here and pay your respects and have some ice cream or a chili-cheese dog!
Speaking of ice cream, let’s get in line and place our final ice cream order for this tour! That’s Kira behind the window and she suggested one of their popular, original ice cream treats called, “Puppy Chow.” She assured me that it tastes better than it sounds and said it’s probably their best selling ice cream item, so that’s what we’re having! There’s the owner of Emo’s, Wendy with Kira in the bottom photo! Always wonderful to see her and she said they had a great season and will be back in 2018! Fantastic news!
Of course while I’m here I have to do my traditional perusing of the ketchup bucket and there’s something new on this trip, French’s Ketchup! I thought they only made mustard! Sadly there’s also Hunt’s Ketchup and if you don’t know how I feel about Hunts Ketchup, just click here. Next year I’m bring a box of Heinz individual ketchup packets to their grand opening!
Our Puppy Chow is ready and there’s Dane serving it up with the blink of an eye!
It certainly looks like a tasty ice cream treat. Kira and Wendy told me the ingredients include soft vanilla ice cream, chocolate dip, peanut butter and Chex Snack Mix. It sounds like an interesting and original ice cream treat, let’s try it out!
This is a sweet and delicious ice cream treat! The vanilla, chocolate and peanut butter mixed together make a nice trio of sweet flavors and the Chex Snack Mix adds a nice crunch to the smooth and creamy ice cream and also adds just a pinch of salt to the sweet. This is a really tasty and original ice cream snack you won’t find anywhere else in Peoria!
As I got towards the middle of the cup, the ice cream got all melty and it turned into a more of a milkshake consistency. It’s almost like getting two ice cream treats in one handy-dandy cup!
And just like that, the cup is empty and this ice cream tour has come to an end! We’ll be back next week with a wrap-up of the tour and the following week will be the palate cleanser before we start yet another MBIP food tour!
See ya next year Mr. Creepy Emo Clown! And I’m bringing a whole box of individual Heinz ketchups with me, so stay tuned for that! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Bonus Gene Konradi Photo And Link To A Story About How He And Vic Burnett Changed My LIfe
Last Saturday, I went to Schooner’s and saw my friend Gene Konradi for the first time in over thirty years! He was in town for his wife, Donna’s 45th Richwoods High School reunion. It was great to see Gene and some of you may remember his popular morning radio show on WIRL back in the '80's, when he was known as Gene Konrad! I sure remember that because it changed the entire course of my life! You can read about how Gene and Vic Burnett changed my life by clicking here. Great to see Gene again and thanks for giving us a shot on your radio show all those years ago, my friend! It set me on a course that I never would’ve taken otherwise! Meanwhile, back in Peoria, things appear to have come full circle! Imagine that.
