This week we hit the halfway mark in our meaty, beaty and somewhat bouncy seven month steak tour! We started the tour on an odd date, so I figured that 28 weeks would be close enough to seven months and so here we are at the halfway mark! It’s definitely a Partridge Family moment in time! Even though David Cassidy is dead so he’s not meeting anyone anytime soon, but that’s his problem, not mine. Anyhoo, last week one of my favorite restaurants in town, Noir, recently updated their menu and they’ve included three new steak entrees on it! So that’s the halfway house destination for this week’s steak dinner! Let’s MOOve it on over to Noir!
Here we are at Noir Tapas & Rendezvous Lounge on Prospect in Peoria Heights. I love all of the restaurants that populate this street, but I think they definitely have the most majestic and purple mountain majesty building. Don’t you?
Okay, let’s go inside and begin the fourteenth week of steak!
The atmosphere in here is wonderful, it’s dark and somewhat sparkly. And I absolutely love the lit-up bar so let’s go sit down at it.
As soon as I sat down, Britnie the beautiful bartender for the evening stepped up to the plate with a bottle of Budweiser. I love it when that happens! The tin ceiling and electric candle chandelier hovering overhead is impressive and gives the bar an instant classic feel to it. I turned around and saw the owners of Noir standing behind me! That’s Georgie and Galen and they’re both looking fabulous and it’s always great to see them and catch up on things!
Tables are lined up opposite the bar and comfortable booths line the far wall. A black and white film is screened on the back wall in a tribute to the restaurant’s name.
As I took a shot from the back of Noir, I saw Georgie with some of her friends at a booth in the back. In the second photo, they are clockwise from left: Jenn, Georgie, Brooke, Kristen and Tyler. It was a pleasure to meet all of them and we shared a laugh about how sometimes a woman can laugh like a hyena barfing up two lungs. It’s a long story I won’t get into here!
I wandered back to the bar just at the right time because...
Britnie was bringing out my appetizer. This is another new addition to the menu and it’s Lobster Nachos! It’s a bowl of fresh and multi-colored tortilla chips in a sea of Maine lobster chunks in a smoked Gouda cheese sauce, guacamole and homemade Pico de Gallo. This was such a delicious, decadent and unique appetizer! Like so many of the other offerings on the Noir menu, you won’t find this anywhere else in Peoria!
And now it’s time for this week’s steak dinner! This is Chef Raul with the Noir version of Surf ‘n Turf.
The Noir take on this classic steak dish is a six ounce Filet Mignon on top of a bed of Poblano Shrimp in a buttery sauce with strips of grilled asparagus. I started off with a piece of the surf portion of this dish and the shrimp was so delicious. It had some steak flavor from the filet which was on top of it and it was a nice way to start off the dish.
But this isn’t a seven month shrimp tour, so I quickly dove into the turf portion of the meal and the steak was so delicious! It was cooked perfectly and the filet was plump and savory. The butter sauce complimented it perfectly and even the asparagus was tasty! I’ve never had a bad meal at Noir and this meal is definitely at the top of the list of all of the tasty entrees I’ve sampled in here!
For dessert Britnie mixed up a banana flavored martini, sweet! Thanks to Britnie, Georgie, Galen and Chef Raul for a wonderul steak dinner and a fun evening in Noir!
In addition to the revised menu, Noir is now open for Sunday brunch! Hooray and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
Steak Rating
Four Elsie The Cows—Surf ‘n Turf is featured on a lot of menus around town, but Noir’s take is unique and a taste-treat that I highly recommend you stop by and try!
