I just realized that we've only had one steak sandwich featured on this steak tour and that was from Willie's Tamale Cart, so I've yet to have a steak sandwich from an actual brick and mortar restaurant. Well all that changes today as we're headed to Steak & Fries for not one, but two steak sandwiches!
Here we are at Steak & Fries which is located in the back section of Campustown on Main Street.
There’s giganzo menus on the walls and I’m going to get the Steak Supreme and The Rib Eye sandwich. I prefer the single Ribeye spelling because the double always makes me think of a cow with cataract problems, but what are you going to do?
The guys behind the counter were a tad camera shy and didn’t really want to pose for the MBIP Camera but this young fellow happily gazed at the camera for this shot. I later found out his dad, Isaac is a fan of the MBIP blog and we all know I love to hear that!
They agreed to let me take a few action shots of them preparing and cooking the sandwiches, but I could tell it was a little annoying for them so I moved on for other photos in here. As the sign states, this is not fast food, it’s cooked to order, so make like these guys and have a little patience please!
It’s a clean, no frills place in here with booths and tables lining the walls and a small dining area in the back.
Here’s the drink station with soft drinks and tea, but sadly no beer! Oh well, what are you going to do?
After waiting patiently, the sandwiches are ready! The top is the Steak Supreme, first without the lettuce to show the steak, then it’s topped with lettuce and the last photo shows the Rib Eye on the left before the lettuce is applied. You can also have tomatoes on the sandwiches, but I’m not big on tomatoes so I passed.
I thought I’d start with the Steak Supreme, so here we go!
This is a really tasty steak sandwich. The sirloin tips are lean and they have a nice savory flavor. The grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms compliment the steak nicely and the bun is toasted and bakery fresh which always takes the sandwich to a higher level.
Now onto the Rib Eye!
I loved the Steak Supreme, but this is even better! The Rib Eye is juicy, tender and melts in your mouth. It’s topped with grilled onions and mushrooms and they add to the flavor nicely. And just like the Steak Supreme the bun is toasty and fresh. This is one delightful and delicious steak sandwich!
They must have seen me eyeballing the Baklava Fingers sign because when I had finished the sandwiches they gave me a complimentary order for desert! Sweet!
Steak Rating
Three and three quarter Elsie the Cows—Both sandwiches were excellent, but I did like the Rib Eye the best! Now if they’d only adjust the spelling!
