This post is the four month mark in our meaty, beaty, big and sometimes bouncy seven month steak tour. This week I’ve discovered another place that you normally wouldn’t think of when you’re pondering a place to go for a steak dinner and this place is a sushi restaurant. Novu Sushi has both a surf and turf sushi roll with filet mignon inside and they also have a filet steak dinner offered on their menu. I’m going to need some help eating this double dose of steak this week and I think we’re in luck, because someone’s knocking on the MBIP World Headquarters door...
It’s my friends, Amber and Joe! They’re going to join me for dinner and they also set a new record as being guests two weeks in a row for a food tour! For their prize, they win...well, a steak dinner, what did you expect, chopped liver? Now let’s hit the road to Junction City!
Here we are at Novu Sushi in Junction City. This certainly looks majestic at night!
But it’s also freezing out here, so let’s get inside! As we walked in I saw a familiar face behind the bar, it’s Matt who was our server when we came here for a Saturday night vegetarian dinner. He told us we could sit anywhere, so we chose a table and sat down.
And no sooner had we sat down than tonight’s server, Tim showed up clutching a giganzo can of Sapporo beer! I love it when that happens. He took our steak order, so I got up to take a few photos of the restaurant while our meal was being prepared.
I took a shot from the back and also got a photo of the guys in the kitchen and the sushi bar. I love the purple hues in here. It would be the perfect place to bring Prince if he wasn’t so dead.
Here’s the bar and the chandeliers hanging overhead. This place has an elegant atmosphere but manages to feel casual too, which is a rough thing to pull off in a restaurant, but they’ve captured that yin and yang ambiance here perfectly.
I got back to the table just as Tim was bringing the first steak course for the three of us. This is the Junction Surf and Turf Roll. The surf portion is escolar, which is also known as white tuna. The turf portion is filet mignon and it’s topped with a crunchy mix and their signature Dragon Sauce. It looks fantastic!
There’s Amber and Joe getting ready to taste the sushi steak treat. After we devoured it, we all agreed that this was a delicious sushi offering. In addition to the fish and filet, there’s also avocado and that combined with the rice gave it a nice creamy texture and the crunchy mix and dragon sauce added even more flavors and consistency. It was a tasty combination and a nice satisfying sushi roll.
And now time four the second course, a Filet Mignon. It’s an eight ounce cut of steak topped with parmesan compound butter. The dinner comes with fried rice and sauteed vegetables. Amber cut it up and it looks absolutely amazing!
All three of us agreed that this was one of the most flavorful and delicious steaks we’ve ever had. It was so tender and I know it sounds like a cliche, but it literally melts in your mouth. I have to be honest, I chose Novu Sushi for the surf and turf sushi roll and thought that the steak would be okay, but I wasn’t expecting such a high end and expertly cooked filet mignon in a sushi restaurant! Our compliments to the chef who prepared it! The vegetables and fried rice were also excellent and were wonderful sides for a delicious steak dinner! Thanks to Matt, Tim and everyone at Novu Sushi for a real highlight on the steak tour! And thanks to Amber and Joe for joining me on the tour for the second week in a row! They always make the night more fun! Rumor has it they might just make it three weeks in a row, so stay tuned to find out next week! We’ll see you all tomorrow.
Steak Rating
Five Elsie the Cows—Novu Sushi gets a rare (pun fully intended) five cow rating for this unbelievable steak dinner. Come for the Junction Surf and Turf sushi but don’t leave until you try the Filet Mignon dinner!
