Today is the first day of spring so I thought we’d go outside for a steak sandwich at the lunch grill at Alwan & Son’s Meat Co. And I thought while we were there it might be fun to get a steak from their meat department and take it back to the MBIP World Headquarters and cook it up and have a Two-Fer-Tuesday steak feast! So it’s off we go on yet another meaty adventure!
It’s a little chilly out here, but the sign says that the grill is indeed open! We’ll go up the stairs, walk past the picnic tables and there’s the table you order at. And working the table to day is Evan, Danielle and Olivia. Olivia had a streak of shade obscuring her face in the photo, but we’ll have a better one of her in a minute!
As you can see, there’s a lot of sandwich options for lunch on the menu, but we’re here for steak, so I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich. There’s Brian Alwan cooking it up back here on the grill. Those ribeye steaks look fabulous!
Here’s Olivia with the sandwich wrapped up in foil and this time her face isn’t marred by shade! The sandwich looks fantastic, but let’s head over to the condiment table to dress it up a little. They’ve got every condiment here for all of your sandwich needs. There’s ketchup, mustard, relish and an array of barbecue and steak sauces. My favorite thing here is the onion machine that spits out cubed onions when you turn the handle. It’s onion magic I tell ya!
My ribeye steak sandwich is topped off with some of the magical onions and a dash of A-1 sauce. The sandwiches here are delicious and they’re hot off of the grill! Before I knew it all that was left was a few onions and a square of tin foil.
But this isn’t the end of our steak journey today, since Alwan’s has a first-class meat department, I thought we’d get a steak to go and cook it back at the MBIP World Headquarters. I love the giant cow grazing over the doors! Okay, let’s go in and pick out a steak!
As you walk in you can see some archival photos of Alwan Meat stores and a nice article about the family from the Observer newspaper.
They have all kinds of things in here but we’re here for a steak, so I headed over to the massive meat counter. My number came up, so it’s time to pick out a steak for our Two-Fer-Tuesday steak feast!
As you can see, there’s about every cut of steak in here you can imagine, but I decided to go with a Porterhouse steak and there’s Bobby handing it off!
I’ve never seen this many selections of steak sauces in my life, I picked one out and Irma rang it all up! Now thought the magic of these here interwebs...
We’re transported to the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting area. There’s the Porterhouse in all of its massive and meaty uncooked glory.
I realized after I got home that I don’t have a broiler tray to cook the steak on so I improvised and made one out of tinfoil. When in doubt, improvise! Okay, there it goes under the broiler. It’s a thick cut of steak, so this is going to take a little while to cook. What should we do in the meantime? Oh I know...
We’ll have a little beer break and watch this video while the steak broils away!
Thanks, Ed! And now we’ll take the steak out an plate it up, it looks amazing! We need to add one more thing to it though...
The steak sauce! I picked “Jorghi’s Best” because it made me think of the Festrunk Brothers. This is going to be one wild and crazy steak!
Wow, this is so tender and delicious! That steak sauce topped it off nicely and it’s so savory and tasty! Imagine if it would’ve been cooked on a real broiler tray?

Four Elsie the Cows—If you’ve never been to Alwan & Son’s Grill for lunch, you should definitely check it out and then get a steak for dinner! You can eat salads for the rest of the week to balance it out! Moo!
