Tonight we’re in for a chicken treat that can only be found in one restaurant here in Peoria. It’s a family recipe that’s only available at one of my favorite restaurants in town, Rizzi’s On Sheridan. So that’s tonight’s clucked up destination!
We have three special guest stars joining us on this second week of clucked up glory and the first one is driving us there. That’s my dad behind the wheel and here we are at Rizzi’s On Sheridan. There’s the Specials board in the foyer, but I already know what I’m going to order, so I didn’t even bother to read it.
There’s a good crowd in here and we chose this booth over on the far side wall to dine at.
Eric is our waiter and he’s been featured on the blog many times and he’s used to posing for the MBIP Camera. Always great to see him and everyone at Rizzi’s! I handed the MBIP Camera over to him so we can reveal the other two special guest stars of the evening...
It’s my friends Amber and Joe, seated at the booth with myself and my dad and it's always wonderful to have them join us. Amber wins the prize for the prettiest smile of the evening here! As you can see from the menu there’s plenty of chicken choices and we placed our order with Eric.
Bekim who’s the owner of Rizzi’s came over to the booth to say hi. He said business has been very good and that’s great to hear. Bekim’s parents, Dave and Lauren Rizvani started this restaurant in 1995. Bekim and his wife Sindis are keeping this family tradition alive and I, among many others here in town are grateful for the wonderful food and hospitality in here.
I think that’s the largest pepper grinder in Peoria! Size matters!
There’s a shot of the dining room from the back and as you can see, there’s a large wine selection here at Rizzi’s. Booths line both sides of the walls and there’s family photos of the Rizvani family up front near the entrance.
The bar is...
Right over here! It’s an impressive and colorful bar and there’s the bartender and manager of Rizzi’s, Chad on duty behind the bar. Always a pleasure to see him!
And there’s even more wine back here.
Glasses hang overhead and they are sparkly!
Meanwhile back at our booth...
Dinner is served! We had salad and soup before the main courses, but I forgot to take photos so click here and here for mental examples. For the main course, Amber got the Pesto Crusted Salmon on top of angel hair pasta. The dish is topped with roasted pepper and a mushroom cream sauce. Joe got the Sausage and Peppers which is a house specialty at Rizzi’s. It’s Italian sausage with bell peppers, mushrooms and onions and tossed with mostaccioli and marinara sauce. Both dishes look fantastic and Amber and Joe said they were both so delicious!
Now it’s time for this week’s chicken dish and it’s one you can only get at Rizzi’s, my dad and I both got the Chicken Rollatini. Bekim told us that this is a recipe originated by his father. It’s slices of lightly breaded chicken breasts stuffed with mozzarella and parmesan cheese, prosciutto, spinach, onion and a touch of garlic. It’s served on a bed of linguini and mushroom bordelaise sauce. As good as it looks and sounds, it tastes even better!
Eric added some fresh ground pepper and it was time to dig in to this week’s chicken entree. This dish has so much flavor packed into it! The chicken is lightly breaded and it’s juicy and tasty. The different cheeses and stuffings compliment the chicken perfectly and the savory homemade mushroom bordelaise sauce take it to a level of the highest order! This is a one-of-a-kind chicken recipe and it can only be found at Rizzi’s! Thanks to everyone at Rizzi’s for the wonderful meal and hospitality! Thanks also to my dad for driving and to Amber and Joe for joining us on this second clucked up week of chicken dinners!
Chicken Rating
Four Dixie Chickens—Everything at Rizzi’s is made from scratch and delicious and the Chicken Rollatini is no exception. It’s a family recipe you can’t get anywhere else and I suggest you stop in and try it out!
