Back in July of 2016, I started a vegetarian dining series on the suggestion of Ben Lowrey A,K.A. B Löwd. Ben had contacted me via facecrack and told me he had recently started a vegetarian lifestyle and wondered if I would feature some places around town where you could get a good meatless meal. I thought that would make a fun series and so we started a vegetarian journey that took us to twelve spots over the next year and a half and had some great vegetarian dinners. All of those meatless journeys are listed below, so if you’re in the mood for a meal without meat, here’s a dozen local suggestions for you!

Ben and I started this vegetarian journey on July 25th, 2016 at Po-Boys on Frostwood. It’s hard to believe that this was almost two years ago! Time flies when you’re eating meatless meals!
PV II Restaurant

PV II has a vegetarian section on the menu so ordering was a no-brainer at this stop and the food was fantastic!
Novu Sushi

Novu Sushi has lots of vegetarian options and we started off with an order of sweet potato fries and sampled three delicious veggie sushi rolls.
Oliver’s Pizza & Pub North

Pizza is an easy and tasty way to have a vegetarian meal and Oliver’s has fantastic meatless pizza! We also got Buffalo Fries and onion rings and their onion rings are homemade and really crispy and delicious!
Last Chance Bar & Grill

My friends Amber, Joe and Todd met us at the Last Chance where we had a late-night breakfast vegetarian meal that was fabulous!
Khoury’s Cuisine

Ben and I met my friend Nathalie at Khoury’s Cuisine on University where we had a wonderful meal and fast and friendly service. Of course we had a little advantage there as Nahtalie’s last name is Khoury! Nathalie’s Uncle and Aunt are the owners of this restaurant.
Rizzi’s Italian Restaurant
Link: Saturday Night @ Rizzi’s Italian Restaurant (Monthly Vegetarian Edition)
Rizzi’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Peoria and I had never tried the Calzone there. This is why I like stepping out of my comfort zone because that broccoli and cheese Calzone was one of the highlights of this vegetarian journey!
Hacienda El Mirador
Julia and Lucas who own Hacienda El Mirador prepared a special Mexican breakfast meal for us and it was yet another highlight of this tour! After dinner we had special guest stars, Amber, Joe, Danielle and Brent joining us for dessert and Tallis got a vegetarian doggie treat!
Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse
You wouldn’t think to go to an Italian steakhouse for a vegetarian meal, but last September we had a fantastic meatless meal at Johnny’s and afterwards I got to hang with Dino! It doesn’t get any better than that!
Yen Ching

Chinese restaurants have lots of vegetarian options and Ben and I feasted on some of them at Yen Ching, which is one of Peoria’s oldest Chinese restaurants.
Khaki Jack’s

We had appetizers and a unique grilled cheese at Khaki Jack’s but the highlight was the Trail Blazer sandwich. This is a portabella mushroom sandwich with onions, lettuce and tomato slices housed in a bakery fresh submarine bun and topped off with a secret sauce. If you didn’t know better, you’d swear the portabella mushrooms are steak!
The Fox Pub

This was the last stop in our vegetarian series and it was definitely a happy ending and a wonderful meatless meal at Peoria’s only English-themed pub! There’s also a wrap-up of the entire vegetarian tour. I want to thank Ben for this idea and for being my sidekick on this tour, it was a fun and delicious meatless tour!
