Yesterday while perusing my Twitter-feed, I saw a Tweet by Joan Jett and I re-tweeted it. Here it is:
Wow, yesterday was the 42nd anniversary of The Runaways first album! It came out in the summer of 1976 and I bought it and fell in love with this band! They were the first all female band with the band members between 16 to 17years-old. They were exactly my age and it was cool to be listening to a band comprised of girls my own age who had made a record. Plus they were promoted as teenage jailbait juvenile delinquents, so that attracted a large male following. What I and the rest of the male fans didn’t know at the time was that most of The Runaways weren’t too interested in guys and you can read about that and more in the six Runaways links below. And then you can see what’s happening here next week on the MBIP Coming Attractions!
The Runaways Biography by Steve Huey - This is a quick and concise biography of the band's short four-year career.
“Queens of Noise” is the most queer telling of The Runaways story yet - In 2013, Evelyn McDonnell put out the book, “Queens of Noise”, which touches on the subject I mentioned in the introduction that most of The Runaways weren’t too interested in the opposite sex...not that there’s anything wrong with that!
'It was the end of a nightmare': Cherie Currie on putting the ghosts of the Runaways to rest - An interview with Cherie Currie where it’s revealed she took care of The Runaways infamous manager, Kim Fowley as he was dying of cancer.
Interview: The Runaways' Joan Jett - In 2010 the movie, “The Runaways” came out and it starred Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. In this interview, Joan Jett talks about the movie and her years in The Runaways.
“The Runaways” - A Review By Roger Ebert - Roger Ebert reviews “The Runaways” movie and gives it three stars. He also tells of how Joan Jett approached him once in London.
The Runaways Website - This website has their history and updates and links for all the band members.
Last night I visited a fairly new steakhouse in Pekin called Sangalli's Italian Steakhouse that's rich with family history and you can read about my dinner and the history tomorrow. On Tuesday we start the 13 month chicken tour and it begins at an historic Peoria restaurant most people don’t equate with chicken, but they should. Wednesday is going to be a post about the Greater Peoria Honor Flight for war veterans happening this Tuesday, so that post will be almost live! Thursday will feature yet another random Peorian in our on-going People of Peoria series and Friday will be another somewhat ridiculous Frozen Food Friday taste-testing adventure. Saturday we’ll have some suggestions about restaurants that you might want to avoid and then we’ll be back to another Sunday. Round and round we go! Have a wonderful and thunderful Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!

WEEKLY OBLIGATORY CHURCH OF ROCK PLUGOLA!
I do a weekly MBIP segment on the radio show The Church Of Rock which is broadcast live on Sunday nights, worldwide out of Oregon on Sunday nights. Every week I pick a song and give a little talk about it before the song is played on the show. The hosts of the show are Rev. Derek Moody (some of you know him as Bloody Mess) and Sister Tracy. The show starts at 9PM CST and my segment will air around 9:15PM! The song I chose for this week is "Somebody Put Something In My Drink" which is a Ramones song, written by former Ramones drummer Richie Ramone. After my segment, Reverend Moody is going to be interviewing Richie Ramone, who I met in 2009 at the Joey Ramone annual Birthday Bash in New York City. You can listen live by streaming from the KSKQ website right here! You should also check out the Church of Rock YouTube channel with archived interviews with everyone from GG Allin to Davy Jones!
