Tomorrow is Labor Day and that means the summer is over. Wow, where did it go? Before you know it we’ll be knee deep in that dreaded winter hoopla. But before that, since this is the last day of summer, I thought I’d put up some links to one of my favorite summer movies, Meatballs, starring Bill Murray. This was Bill Murray’s first movie and even though it was a low budget film, he and the rest of the cast knocked it out of the summer ball park! Then there’s the MBIP Coming Attractions as to what’s happening this first week back at the blog after my summer vacation!
Ivan Reitman talks ‘Meatballs,’ how Bill Murray took pity on him, and why it just doesn’t matter - An interview with the director of the movie, Ivan Reitman, who tells how the movie was written for Bill Murray, but he didn’t know if he was going to show up for it. He finally did on the second day of shooting! He also tells how the classic, “It just doesn’t matter” scene and speech happened.
Meatballs: An Oral History - Ivan Reitman, the writers and some of the actors from the movie tell stories of filming the movie and adventures and parties that happened when the camera wasn’t rolling.
See Bill Murray Explain Why He’s ‘Obnoxious’ in Animated Interview - This isn’t really Meatballs related, although he does mention it once, but it’s a great animated Bill Murray interview.
Meatballs - The A.V. Club Review - A movie review from Onion’s A.V. Club.
Bill Murray Movies List - Meatballs was Bill Murray’s first movie, here’s a list and synopsis of the rest of them, although they left Tootsie off of the list.
Meatballs: Where Are They Now? - Who knew that there was a soft core porn actress in the movie?
Okay, we’re back with a big week of fresh daily posts! Tomorrow on Labor Day we’ll take a trip to Kenny’s Westside Pub for some of their famous chicken wings. That’s Sean Kenny, the owner of Kenny’s in the picture above holding posters that say, “The Marty Monologues” on them, now what the hell is going on with that? Maybe we’ll find out tomorrow!
Tuesday we continue the 13 month chicken tour and I’m joined by my friends Amber and Joe and we have a three course chicken dinner at Donnelly’s Irish Pub including the best chicken sandwich I have ever had!
Wednesday I’ll be showing photos from my Labor Day Lunch with my cousins Danny and Patty Seitz. I was going to take them to Lou’s Drive-In, but I just discovered they close today for the season. Time to improvise!
Thursday we continue our People of Peoria series and this week we’re featuring WMBD traffic reporter and book author, Ken Zurski who has written a new book. We’ll have questions for Ken and we’ll tell you all about his new book then!
Friday we’re going to feature a drink of the week from Peoria’s past at an unusual location.
Saturday will be a new feature called The MBIP Saturday Morning Post and I’m still working on that, so let me get back to that and wish all of you a happy Labor Day weekend! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
