Warning: Things are going to get a little dark here on the sixth week of whiskery growth! You’ve been warned!
Week Number Six
This is the whitest my beard has ever been and it kind of bugs me and I feel it really ages me. I don’t really give a shit, but I would like it to be darker so it more or less matches the hair on top of my noggin. It’s even whiter than it looks in this photo.
I’ve been thinking about dying it when it grows in a little more and the other day when I was eating lunch at Aura Salon in Peoria Heights, I spoke to Andrea about it. She told me they could dye it and she also told me about this styling gel that would darken my beard, but it wouldn’t look unnatural. It’s made by Depot and it’s called, No. 307 Black Gel.
It kind of disturbs me that beneath the name it says, “300 Hair Stylings,” and this is number 307. That seems odd to me and now The Beatles song, The One After 909 is playing in my head. I hate it when that happens, so let’s just keep moving along here!
Here I am applying it to the beard. A little dab’ll do ya!
Wow, this is amazing, it darkened it but it doesn’t look fake!
Check out the before and after photos! This is perfect until I go and have it dyed in March. So there.

The sixth week gets a little dark, but in a good way!
Famous Beards Through The Years: Henry Beard
While the name Henry Beard isn’t a household name that everyone knows, it really should be. He was a founding editor of the National Lampoon along with Doug Kenney. That magazine was a direct influence on Saturday Night Live and the whole culture of comedy in the ‘70’s.
While Kenney was the somewhat crazy one, Henry Beard was known to keep everyone in line and make sure that the magazine met the deadline. He also wrote some classic pieces for the magazine and had a dry and wry sense of comedic humor.
He cashed out of the magazine in 1975 and just walked away and has since written a score of humorous books. Some of the titles include: Latin for All Occasions, Latin for Even More Occasions, French for Cats: All The French Your Cat Will Ever Need, O.J.'S Legal Pad and Leslie Nielsen's Stupid Little Golf Book.
