I like miniature food. So this week I thought I’d do a miniature variation on the Sloppy Joe sandwich. I’m going to shrink that concept and also clean it up because who likes to eat sloppy food? Not me, so here we go with this week’s Thursday Minute Marty Meal!
This week’s ingredients are from left: Schnucks Honey, Stubb’s Spicy Barbecue Sauce, Party Jewish Rye Appetizer Bread, ground sirloin, Cracker Cuts Sharp Cheddar Cheese, diced white onion, Nacho Cheese, Nutella & Go, Green Giant Shoepeg White Corn and Kikkoman Soy Sauce.
All ingredients purchased at the Schucks on University Street.
And let us not forget the most important ingredient a sixteen ounce can of Bud Light! Okay, let’s get cooking!
We’ll start off browning the ground sirloin and while that’s simmering we’ll make the sauce to go with it.
The sauce is going to be made from four key ingredients: Kitchen Cooked Nacho Cheese Sauce, Stubbs Spicy Barbecue Sauce, A.1. Sauce and diced onions. The base is going to be the Stubbs Barbecue sauce and then we’ll add dollops of the A.1. Sauce and nacho cheese. Lastly we’ll add some onions to the sauce.
Then we’ll season it with a trio of black pepper, ground mustard powder and chili powder. The sauce is all mixed together and now we’ll let that simmer on a low heat.
I’ve opened up another can of beer and we continue on our cooking path!
While the ground sirloin is lean, we’ll still drain the grease off of it. A tip here is that I rinse it with water to really get rid of the grease. This is lean and mean ground sirloin!
I put it back in the pan and seasoned it with black pepper and a dash of mustard powder and we’ll let that simmer on a low heat as we keep putting this Marty Meal together.
The side dish is going to be something I call Honey Butter Asian Corn. I just made the recipe up at the store! The corn will microwave for five minutes.
The sauce has now simmered about twenty minutes and we’ll add it to the ground sirloin. I sampled it and it tastes really good, nice and savory and the sauce has a tang to it and the onions compliment the sirloin perfectly!
I think it’s time for another beer!
Okay, now it’s time to make the syrup for the corn. I thought it might be an interesting flavor to mix butter, honey and soy sauce into a simple syrup for the corn to swim around in. And no, I wasn’t high when I thought of this! I just thought it might make a nice Asian styled sweet and salty syrup.
I melted the butter and then added generous portions of honey and soy sauce to it and mixed it all up. We’ll cover it and let it simmer for about five minutes and then…
Baboom, there’s our Honey Butter Asian Syrup! I added the corn and we’ll let that simmer on a low heat while we prepare the finishing touches for this Marty Meal.
I’m having a Beach Boys moment here!
The last thing we need to do is prepare the bread for the Not So Sloppy Midget open-faced sandwiches. I told you I wanted to miniaturize the concept of a Sloppy Joe and so I got appetizer Jewish Rye bread.
I took four slices and put a slice of the cracker cut cheddar cheese and put them under the broiler for a couple of minutes. Then I took them out and started to plate this week’s meal.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present this week’s Thursday Minute Marty Meal: Not So Sloppy Midgets with Honey Butter Asian Corn!
This is one delicious meal, if I do say so myself and I just did, so there!
The Not So Sloppy Midget sandwiches are tasty, spicy and savory and you can eat them with your fingers without having a mess on your hands!
The Honey Butter Asian corn was a real treat! The butter, honey and soy sauce really mixed well together and has a unique and delicious sweet and salty Asian-syled flavor!
To continue the sweet and salty theme, I got a Nutella & Go package for dessert. It’s pretzel sticks with Nutella spread and it was so tasty, plus I love the way it’s compartmentalized!
Women Eating Corn Dogs!
It’s funny the places the internet will take you! I originally was searching for photos of women with corn but I ended up with photos of women with corn dogs! I’d call that a happy accident which led to this titillating photo montage!
Enjoy!
