The building at 1024 Main Street has gone through a couple of chicken eateries through the years.
On June 23, 2015 we visited this location when it was A World of Wings. Then just about a year ago on September 18, 2018 we stopped by on the 12th week of this 13 month chicken eating tour and sampled the chicken at Harold’s Chicken Shack #41. Well, Harold’s has moved down the road on Main Street to the spot that used to house Mr. G’s and now this location is home to Jr’s Kitchen.
I read a great review from Phil Luciano in the PJ Star on their spot on South MacArthur Highway and I noted to try and stop by there sometime. But now that they’re at this Main Street location, I decided that I had to stop by and visit this ever-changing house of chicken for the third time. So let’s get the cluck over there!
Here we are at the third chicken restaurant here at 1024 Main Street. This time it’s home to Jr’s Kitchen, let’s go in and see if the third time is a charm in here!
The place hasn’t changed much and right off the bat I met Jr., the owner of this fine establishment.
He said things are going great for him and that people are loving the food in here. We looked at the menu and he made a recommendation for this week’s chicken dinner. That will be revealed as soon as it’s served up, so keep on scrolling down!
Jenise was working the counter and she took my order and said she’d deliver it when it was done.
There’s tables directly opposite the front counter, but I decided to sit in the back dining room and chose one of the tables lining the walls.
There’s a nice collection of black and white photos from Peoria’s past including the Peoria Drive-In, Phone-A-Feast and the legendary Big John’s BBQ restaurant.
Here’s a shot from the back of the dining room.
And here’s Jenise delivering the 45th chicken dinner of this tour.
Jr’s Kitchen specializes in chicken wings and they have a large variety of unique, house-made sauces to choose from including: Teriyaki, Suicide Pizza, Pineapple Gold, Zesty Italian and Spicy Jamaican Jerk with Pineapple.
Jr. suggested I try the Taco Chicken Wings and so that’s what I got. This is a four piece Chicken Taco Wing dinner with fries and an order of Chocolate Sweet Buns for dessert.
It looks delicious, let’s dig in!
I sampled the French fries first and they were crispy and tasty. They had a nice seasoning to them and were a delicious start to this week’s chicken meal.
Now on to the star of the show…
The Taco Chicken Wings!
The wings come dressed with slices of pepper and there’s a cheese and taco sauce on them. I’ve eaten a lot of chicken wings, but these are unlike any I’ve ever seen!
These are some of the best wings I’ve ever had!
The cheese and taco sauce are so flavorful and the chicken is juicy and succulent! If you’re a chicken wing fan, you need to stop by Jr’s and try these out!
I know I’m coming back to sample some of the other unique sauces!
And after those spicy wings, these sweet chocolate buns were the perfect dessert!
Thanks to everyone at Jr’s for a wonderful chicken wing dinner, I wish them much success at their new location!
Chicken Rating
Four Dixie Chickens—I’ve never had taco flavored chicken wings, but I’m definitely coming back for more and I’ve also got to get another order of those chocolate sweet buns, a real taste treat!
