Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Castle’s Patio Inn with special guest stars, Alex, Kevin, Chris and Sy the condom blower!
Now please welcome this week’s host, Castle’s Patio Inn!
Here we are at one of my favorite Peoria places, Castle’s Patio Inn.
I thought this would be a perfect place to start the first Saturday night of 2020, so let’s go in and let the fun begin!
Right off the bat I spy an empty seat at the bar and there’s veteran bartender, Alex serving up an ice-cold beer!
Alex is one of the best and friendliest bartenders in Peoria and he’s always got some great and fun stories to share!
Right off the bat I’m scarfing down some of their famous homemade garlic cheese spread on Ritz crackers! I also placed my dinner order and I love the vintage menus in here!
There’s the quartet of taps at the bar and some of the nightly and weekly specials.
The dining room tables are opposite the bar complete with checkered table cloths, Old Style chandelier lamps and a Helieman’s Special Export globe.
I love the retro feel in here!
Busch Beer is well represented and there’s Spuds McKenzie all lit up in neon on the back wall.
Down at the end of the bar I met Nadine who’s worked here for a couple years, but we’ve never met till tonight!
Great to meet her and we found out that we both love Chuck Berry after I brought up the fact he wrote a song called, “Nadine.”
Alex was taking a quick bite of his dinner in between serving up drinks and cheese and it looks like it’s just about time for my Saturday night dinner to be served!
Just as I sat back down, Kevin magically appeared holding tonight’s dinner that he just skillfully prepared!
I got the Castle Crown, which is their signature sandwich and it was delicious and satisfying as always! You can read more about it in the review below.
Alex’s brother, Chris showed up later in the evening and it was wonderful to meet him. He lives in Minnesota and was home for the holidays.
We started talking about the legendary condom machine in the bathroom and so I had to go take a picture of it!
I’ve written about the condom machines in here before, but if you don’t know, I think this and the one in the women’s bathroom are the two oldest condom machines in Peoria. Alex told me that they were installed in the ’70’s and they’re bolted to the wall and can’t be taken down.
He also said that the guy who stocked the machines died almost twenty years ago, but somehow they never run out of condoms!
Check out the bottom photo, I need to call up the manufacturer and explain to them that the condom doesn’t go on the woman, it belongs somewhere else!
If you need directions on how to use a condom, I have a feeling you’re too dumb to be having sex in the first place!
To prove that the machines are still stocked, Kevin went and bought one! Check it out, it’s the Hawaiian Condom!
Insert your own “getting lei’d” joke here!
These are colored condoms and this one is bright yellow. Yeah, there’s nothing sexier than a jaundiced looking penis!
Sy grabbed the condom and we ended the night on an SCTV moment. That blowed up real good!
I started off with the legendary Castle’s Patio Inn garlic cheese spread on Ritz crackers and that is a true treat that you’re not going to get anywhere else in town! The recipe is a secret that’s been handed down through the years! If you’ve never sampled it, you need to get to Castle’s and try it out. You can get tubs to take home too!
For the main course I had the Castle Crown sandwich which is the signature sandwich at Castle’s Patio Inn. There’s thick slices of prime beef topped with pickles and grilled onions and then they add the homemade garlic cheese and that takes it over the top!
The prime beef is juicy and flavorful and the onions and pickle compliment it well. The melted cheese adds a creamy richness to the sandwich and it’s housed in a bakery fresh roll! One of the best sandwiches in Peoria.
And it’s a generous portion too, that’s just a half sandwich and it more than filled me up! I can’t imagine eating a whole one!
