Through the years we’ve done a lot of food tours here on MBIP. We’ve done pizza, chicken wings, soup, ice cream, sandwiches, chicken and the very first food tour was sampling twenty tenderloins in twenty weeks.
Tenderloin sandwiches are a unique midwestern thing. You won’t find them outside of the midwest and people are very opinionated about them here. When I announced this tour on facecrack back in 2013, I got 265 comments with suggestions of where to go. A lot of people suggested I try the tenderloin at Midway Duck Inn, so that’s where I started this twenty week tour of sampling tenderloins around the area.
This post went up on September 10, 2013. Below are some highlights from the post and then a link to the original post from almost seven years ago
Here we are at Midway Duck Inn, I like the wooden, rustic look of the place. Back then, Jeannie and her husband Ken owned Midway Duck Inn, but a few years ago, Todd Waldschmidt bought it and he runs it now. They’re currently closed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, but hopefully it’ll re-open in the future.
I noted how I liked the wooden walls in here and how it gave the place an old-school hunting lodge feeling. There were plenty of seats at the bar, so that’s where I settled in at.
Erica was the bartender on duty and she served up a can of Budweiser with a pretty smile!
I met Sarah and Brandon in my travels and Sarah told me that she reads the blog. I wonder if she still does seven years later…you out there Sarah?
I started the meal off with a corn fritter and it was homemade and delicious!
There’s the star of the show, the tenderloin. I dressed it up with onion, mustard and black pepper.
It was delicious! You can read the entire post and the review by clicking on the link below.
