This week’s Marty Meal was inspired by the Saturday Night Take-Out Dinner from Weaver’s that I posted on Monday.
When I was looking at their menu online and trying to figure out what to order, I noticed that they have Cincinnati Chili and was thinking about ordering it. I really like Cincinnati Chili, particularly because it’s usually made with no beans. And as we all know, beans do not belong in chili!
But then I decided that instead of ordering it, I’d make it myself! I found a recipe complete with a video on how to make Cincinnati Chili, so let’s get cooking!
This is just a portion of the ingredients. This meal takes two days to prepare, so this is just for the first day. I forgot to take pictures of the stuff I picked up for day number two, but you’ll see them in the post, so don’t start crying!
The ingredients for day number one are, from left to right: Ground Cloves, Cumin, Ground Allspice, Apple Cider Vinegar, Ground Beef, Cayenne, an onion, Tomato Paste and Tomato Sauce.
Plus I’ll be using other spices and ingredients from the MBIP Kitchen inventory.
Day Number One
Usually I just kind of make these meals up as I go along, but for this I wanted to make true Cincinnati-styled chili, so I found a menu online, complete with video instructions and I’m going to follow that and use it for a guide to make today’s Marty Meal. If you’d like to follow along, here’s a link to the menu and video.
The first thing we need to do is cook the tomato paste in the bottom of the pan. Once that is warmed up, you take it off the heat and add the ground beef and water to it. Then you mix it up into what they call, “a sludge” and return to heat and let it simmer for a while.
While it’s simmering, we’ll open up a giganzo can of Budweiser to pass the time. Cheers!
Okay, it’s simmering fairly nicely, so now we’ll add the tomato sauce to the ground beef mixture.
Then we’ll add chopped onions and all of the spices. The thing that really makes Cincinnati Chili unique is the different spices you add to the ground beef and they are: chili powder, cumin, ground allspice, ground cloves, cayenne, cinnamon and Worcestershire sauce.
Then you give it a good stir and a mix and now you let it simmer for two hours. We’ll check back in about an hour to see how it’s doing.
In the meantime, we might as well uncork another giant beer!
An Hour Later
Okay, an hour has gone by, so let’s check on the chili and have a taste test. It’s really tasty, but I want to add a few more spices to add a little more flavor to it.
I shook in some ground mustard, minced onions, black pepper and some more chili powder for a little more heat.
I took a taste and it’s really delicious now. Okay, we’ll let that simmer for another hour. I’m having another beer, but I’m not posting a photo because the whole beer thing is getting kind of old.
An Hour Later
Wow, the liquid has really been reduced and now it’s time to transfer the seasoned chili into a container and let it sit in the MBIP fridge overnight.
And what should we do for the rest of the evening? Say hello to my little friends!
Day Two
Time to begin day two of this week’s Marty Meal!
We’ll take the chili mixture out of the MBIP Fridge and transfer it to a pre-heated pan and add some apple cider vinegar to the mixture.
I stirred that in, covered it and we’ll let that simmer while we start on the next part of the meal.
Cincinnati Chili is served with spaghetti as a base, so I cooked some up, drained it and put it back in the pan.
While I’m staying true to the Cincinnati Chili recipe, I am putting my own spin to the spaghetti portion
I’m adding some butter and a jar of Old English Cheese to add some extra flavor and richness to the pasta. I took a taste after it was all melted in and it’s delicious!
Okay, time to start building this bowl of Cincinnati Chili. I’m getting pretty excited over here!
I bought a brand new clear glass bowl just for this week’s Marty Meal. I thought it would display the chili better.
So we start off with the cheesy spaghetti, then add the Cincinnati Chili, then a layer of chopped onions followed by a pile of finely shredded cheddar cheese.
Then it gets garnished with premium oyster crackers.
I’ve never spent so much time and effort on a Thursday Minute Marty Meal and here it is in all of its glory!
Wow, it looks and smells so good!
Here’s a close up of the top of the chili and a side-view. Okay, let’s dig in!
Wow, this is so tasty!
The chili is loaded with flavor from all of the spices and the spaghetti with the cheese is creamy and rich and compliments the spicy chili perfectly.
The oyster crackers add a nice crunch and this is one of my favorite Marty Meals of all time! It was definitely worth all of the effort! And there’s enough left over for lunch tomorrow!

I try not to get political on here, but I do confess to making fun of Donald Trump now and again. Hey, I lived in New York City from 1993 to 2012 and back then it was part of being a New Yorker! Everyone made fun of that guy!
But last night, he revealed something that made me feel bad for making fun of him being an overall doofus and his complete lack of human skills.
In an interview last night, he revealed that he has actually managed to memorize five words that he can say over and over again! And he does this in the right order. You get extra points for that!
These magical words he’s somehow managed to memorize are: “Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV.”
I know this sounds somewhat unbelievable, but here’s the video that proves he’s mastered the unbelievable art of memorizing these five words…all in order too. You get extra points for that!
So in honor of this amazing mental feat that Donald Trump has somehow mastered, I made a photo montage, honoring the great, beautiful and winning words: Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV.
And I put them in the right order…you get extra points for that!
I think when historians sum up the year of 2020, it will be done in just five words: Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV. I just hope they can get it in the right order. You get extra points for that.
