This week we’re headed off to Heritage Square in the Heights to sample the pizza pie at Brienzo’s Wood Fired Pizza.
Off we go on another saucy journey!
Here we are at Brienzo’s Wood Fired Pizza Parlor in Heritage Square Shopping Center in Peoria Heights.
As you can see they have a large outdoor patio area that extends over to the side of the building.
I think we’ll eat inside though and so it’s through the front door we go!
As you can see they have a large dining room and comfortable leather booths line the perimeter of the room.
I decided to sit up at the bar, so let’s go get settled in.
Amanda was working the bar and looking cute in her mask.
She delivered me an iced tea and took my pizza pie order.
The kitchen and prep area is on full display in the back of the restaurant. Check out that huge wood-burning pizza oven!
There’s ten different selections of beer on tap for your drinking pleasure!
They make their own frozen gelato here and there are a half a dozen flavors to choose from.
Opposte the gelato freezer is the gaming area for all of you gamblers out there.
I love this Brienzo’s hand-carved pumpkin! It’s hard to believe, but Halloween is just around the corner!
They have their own house beer here and you can keep the glass for $7.50. Such a deal!
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
Our pizza dinner is being served!
I started off with an order of their house-made breadsticks and warm beer cheese.
These were hot out of the oven, so I used a fork and dipped a hunk of the breadstick into the warm, melted cheese and it was so tasty!
The cheese was rich, creamy and had a nice zip to it and the breadstick was warm, pillowy-soft and so delicious. This is maybe the best breadstick I’ve ever had!
And here’s the star of the show, this week’s cheese pizza!
We’ll let this slice cool down on the plate for a minute or so, I like my pizza at room temperature.
The sauce has a nice zippy flavor and the cheese is rich and plentiful, but it has no crispiness what-so-ever.
Even the back crust isn’t crispy at all. I’ve had pizza here before and it was a lot crispier than this. The pizza itself is tasty, I just wish it was cooked a little more well done.
I think this pizza came out of the oven a little too early, but this is the pie I have to judge, so here’s this week’s rating.

THE RATING SYSTEM
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).

MBIP SCORE
——
This was a tasty pizza and I recommend it, but it could’ve been cooked a little longer to add some crisp to the crust!
