This was a post from March of 2013 and I had to go out for my Saturday night cheeseburger in the daytime due to the fact that I was going to be working late at night.
I had heard that the Silver Dollar Tavern served up a good cheeseburger, but only in the early afternoon. I had only been back in Peoria for a few months and I hadn’t been to this place for decades, so I thought I’d go and see if it had changed much.
Oh Sherman, can you help us out here?
Sherman, please set the Wayback Machine for March 4, 2013 and…
Whoomp, here we are at the Silver Dollar Tavern on Prospect Road.
The Silver Dollar has been standing tall here in Peoria Heights for over 50 years.
I haven’t been inside of here for over two decades, time to wander in and see if the place has changed any.
Wow, this is like going back in time, it hasn’t changed a bit, let’s snag a seat and get settled in!
I was drinking iced tea because I had to go into work later and bartender Mary served it up with a nice smile.
Mary looked familiar and it turns out that she was in my magazine, People of Peoria! We did two winter swimsuit issues and she was a model in one of them!
We hadn’t seen each other in over ten years! What a fun surprise!
She told me that her photo from the magazine was on the bulletin board over here…
There it is! We took photos on the riverfront and it was freezing outside! Jeff Putnam was the photographer at this chilly winter photo shoot. What a fun memory and it was so great to see Mary again!
I placed my cheeseburger order and now let’s take a look around in the Silver Dollar Tavern.
There’s a nice pool table in the back corner over here.
Here’s a shot from the end of the bar, that guy’s looking at me and wondering why I’m taking photos in here.
Check out the Elvis pinball machine!
There’s two historical Peoria celebrities, Captain Jinks and Salty Sam!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, the condiments have been set at my place, looks like it’s just about time for…
Our cheeseburger Saturday night dinner!
Wow, this looks like one fabulous cheeseburger!
What a delicious cheeseburger!
I got mine topped with a hefty mound of cheddar cheese, several slabs of thick, smokey bacon and savory grilled onions. And what really sealed the deal was the bun. Bakery fresh, buttered and toasted!
It was so satisfying and delicious!
Yes, it was all that…
