This week we’re having lunch at Jimmy’s Bar with an esteemed special guest star.
So there, scroll on down to see pictures of this monumental event and this week’s special guest star!
Here we are at Jimmy’s Bar, a local Peoria institution on Farmington Road!
There’s plenty of outdoor seating here at Jimmy’s and as the sign says, everyone’s welcome here, so let’s go in and see what’s happening inside.
There’s the bar and there’s tables on the opposite side.
Dan was behind the bar and he served me up an iced tea.
The lunch special is a Pub Chicken sandwich and I might give that a try!
There’s gaming machines in the front corner of the room, opposite the bar.
There’s some neon in here including the legendary Jimmy’s Bar Clock.
Elvis sits up at the bar along with a Guinness Harp.
There’s the specials of the day at Jimmy’s Bar.
Here’s a shot from the back of the room.
They have an indoor beer garden in the back that can be rented out for private parties.
And here’s this week’s luncheon guest star, Steve Tarter!
I’ve been friends with Steve for decades and he’s a former writer and editor for the PJ Star. Even though he’s retired from there, he’s still keeping busy these days as a podcaster for Peoria Life and he’s a correspondent for WCBU Radio.
He’s going to be interviewing me about my 9/11 experience in New York City twenty years ago for WCBU this afternoon. That will air in a few weeks and I’ll post a link to that when it’s online. Stay tuned!
Great to see Steve and catch up, we haven’t seen each other since before this rotten pandemic blew into town!
And before you know it, lunch is served!
Both Steve and I got the Pub Chicken Sandwich lunch special and it looks delicious!
This was one tasty sandwich!
Freshly grilled chicken with rich melted cheese on a bakery fresh bun.
Jimmy’s has delicious food and this is a testament to that!
As we were leaving Jimmy Spears arrived and it’s always great to see him.
Jimmy is one of the friendliest bar-owners in town and you should stop in and have a drink and a meal at this iconic Peoria tavern on Farmington Road in West Peoria!
As I said, Steve was going to interview me this afternoon on WCBU Radio and there’s the news director, Tim Shelley who’s going to run the board and produce this segment.
The interview went great and I’ll post a link when WCBU puts it online.
Great to see Steve and now it’s that time of the post for us to ask Steve…

The Same Three Fucking Questions!
1. Does ketchup belong on a hot dog?
OK, I'm going to waffle on this one. I don't mind ketchup on a hotdog when I have one at home but when ordering a Chicago dog with all the trimmings (peppers, green relish and all that), I don't want ketchup.
2. Is deep dish pizza really pizza or is it a casserole like Jon Stewart says it is.
It's pizza—especially here in the Midwest where Chicago-style pizza, thick and thin, is so popular.
3. Why do fools fall in love?
Because they're foolish which can be a lot of fun sometimes.

Thanks to Steve for joining me for this week’s “Lunch At First Bite” post and stay tuned for the upcoming ink to the 9/11 interview on WCBU!
