Until last weekend I had never heard of or seen the Soderstrom Castle on Grandview Drive in Peoria Heights. I happened upon it on facecrack and noticed they were having a Halloween event there last Monday.
It started at 5pm on Monday and went into the night with light shows, but I was afraid that it would be hard to get decent shots at night, so I went at 5pm.
It was a fun event and the photos are below. Happy Halloween…two days after the fact!

Here’s the grand castle. This is a Peoria Historical Landmark and you can read the history of it here.
It was originally built in 1892 and Dr. Carl Soderstrom bought the castle in 2013 and has had a Halloween celebration every year since. It’s nice of him to put this free event on for the community.
There was two fire-breathing gargoyles up at the front of the castle.
Check out these two large skeletons in the front yard.
Ghostbusters was the theme of this year’s event and there’s a large Stay Puft Marshmallow Man with a Slimer beside him.
They had a Ghostubusters car and here’s some shots with kids and people posing alongside the car with some of the Ghostbusters crew there for the day.
Here I am making my way towards the inside of the event.
There was nice people greeting everyone and everybody got a large Hershey bar as you went through!
There was no little “fun size” candy being handed out and that was a nice treat to get!
There’s Dr. Soderstrom in the far left in the upper left of these photos, very nice of him to sponsor this free Halloween event every year!
Lights, camera…news! Breanna Rittmann from WMBD/WYZZ was out covering the event and you can see her report from the event right here.
A couple of people from Madhouse Marvels - Sideshow had a fire show going on and it was very entertaining.
Of course I left them a tip and was on my way. Happy Halloween everybody!
