I was thinking about places to go for a sweet treat this Friday and I realized I haven’t been to Panaderia Ortiz Bakery & Pizza in quite some time now!
It’s time to make up for that today, so let’s head to Monroe Street in downtown Peoria and begin this week’s Friday Sweet Spot adventure!
I love the colorful look of their building and the mural on the side wall is beautiful!
While I’m here for a sweet treat, they also have savory and tasty dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
They’re open every day from 6am to 9pm with a full menu consisting of tacos, pizza, burritos, enchiladas, nachos, tamales, plus a full bakery and grocery items. This place has it all!
Let’s go inside and look for our Friday sweet treat!
It’s really nice in here and it’s got a friendly, neighborhood welcoming vibe inside.
There’s artwork on the walls and fun art pieces hanging from the ceiling and it give a nice, festive feeling to the bakery/restaurant.
It’s a family affair in here, there’s the owners, Marie and Bernardo with their son, Bernardo, Jr. in the middle. It was wonderful to see them again and catch up on things.
They told me to feel free to take some photos and browse around for a sweet treat for this Friday post, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do!
There’s a case up front with freshly baked cakes and slices of cheesecake. Everything looks divine!
There’s bakery racks just opposite the dining room loaded with sweet and savory treats.
This case has an overload of sweet treats inside. I have to admit, I’m not sure what to choose, so I sought some help…
Bernardo came over and made a couple of suggestions and I took his advice and it’s time to sample our sweet treats of the week!
I chose to sit over in this corner booth and there’s the two sweet items of the week that Bernardo suggested!
This is a freshly baked cream cheese muffin and it was absolutely heavenly!
You can see the sweet and rich cream cheese bursting out of the top of the muffin and this was so sweet and delicious! The muffin was fresh and it melted in my mouth!
I’ve never had a cream cheese muffin and I think this is the only place to find one in Peoria, so I suggest you stop by and try one out, you won’t be sorry!
Bernardo’s other suggestion was a freshly baked Elephant Ear. An Elephant Ear is a giant fried dough cookie, topped with cinnamon and sugar.
This was a light, sweet and flaky taste treat! Both of these pastries were so tasty, sweet and a pure delight! Thanks to Bernardo for his sweet suggestions, I loved them and it was wonderful to stop in and have a visit here.
Panaderia Ortiz Bakery & Pizza is a unique and special bakery and restaurant in downtown Peoria and if you’ve never tried it out you definitely should!
You can dine in or carry out and they have a full menu of savory items and a complete bakery of sweet treats. It’s an all-in-one stop for all of your eating needs!
They handed me this container on the way out and said it was a complimentary treat for stopping by. How nice was that?
I went home and opened it up and it was a piece of cake with a sweet sauce below it! It was a delicious and sweet treat to end the afternoon!
Thanks to Marie, Bernardo and Bernardo, Jr. for a sweet and fun afternoon at Panaderia Ortiz Bakery & Pizza!

Bonus Section: Two Sweet Gifts From Scott Turley!
As if this day wasn’t sweet enough, later on, after finishing up the complimentary cake from Panaderia Ortiz Bakery, there was a package delivered to the MBIP World Headquarters.
It was from MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley and there were two gifts inside that he just sent to me out of the blue!
This is a t-shirt with the infamous Goodfellas painting on it! I love it! Scott gave me a poster of this when I moved into the new MBIP World Headquarters and I had it framed and put it on the kitchen wall. I don’t know how many people have looked at it and said, “Where do I know that from?”
All I have to say is, “Goodfellas,” and they immediately remember that scene from the movie!
This is one of the best presents I’ve ever received! It’s a Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Hot Wheels Semi Truck!
I have never seen this and what a cool collector’s item! I put it in a place of honor, front and center on the MBIP World Headquarters Coffee Table!
This is too cool! Thank you so much, Scott, I really appreciate it and this is the cherry on top of this Friday Sweet Spot post!
It doesn’t get any sweeter than this!
