Happy Labor Day everyone! Lou’s Drive-In is now officially closed for the season but I went for one last Lou’s meal last week with my friend Marie, who I haven’t seen in years.
But through the miracle of these here interwebs, you can see her right here…
Enjoying a pre-Lou’s beer in the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen! Marie moved out of Peoria for a while, but she’s back in town now and we decided to have a final meal at Lou’s Drive-In before it closes for the season.
We finished our pre-Lou’s beers and here we are the iconic Lou’s Drive-In. That’s one of my favorite signs in Peoria signs and I’m always sad when the lights go out for the season.
There’s a shot of the corner of the dining island and the vintage signage above. Marie and I decided to sit on the other side of the island.
Here’s a shot from where we sit and as you can see, The Lou’s crew is very busy. Lot’s of people are showing up for one last Lou’s treat of the season.
Izabella took our order and let me take her photo. Like all the girls who work at Lou’s, she’s very friendly and look at that cute smile!
Then she turns the tables and took a photo of Marie and I with the MBIP Camera!
Of course I had to get a mug of their delicious, homemade root beer.
Kelly Mehl came up and said hi. It’s been years since I last saw Kelly and it made me think of my last time at Wee Tee Golf Center. Kelly and her husband, Bruce owned Wee Tee since the mid-80’s. I haven’t seen her since Wee Tee closed and it was nice to chat with her and to see her again!
Our order is up, it’s time for the last Lou’s supper of the season.
Okay, time to unwrap and start enjoying the last summer meal at Lou’s Drive-In.
Marie and I split an order of onion rings and chicken nuggets and they were crispy and tasty. Marie got two chili dogs and I decided to try a grilled cheese sandwich.
I’ve never had a grilled cheese at Lou’s and it did not disappoint! It was grilled perfectly and it was crispy and buttery on the outside and inside was rich melted cheese. Marie said her chili dogs were fantastic.
The Lou’s Crew posed for one last photo of the season! What a crew of friendly and cute girls!
The crowd is thinning down, the lights are going off and there’s Izabella sweeping up some spilled popcorn.
The lights are off and summer is officially over. I’m guessing they’re putting up the Xmas decorations at Walgreens about now.
Have a wonderful and funderful Labor Day, everybody!
