Most of us remember when Trefzger’s was located on Prospect in the old corner store location. It’s hard to believe but they’ve been in their new location, a little further up the road for close to seven years now!
This building sat vacant for a few years and then it magically became TequilaRia Wine & Spirits!
Let’s go inside, take a look around and find out more about this unique and locally-owned shop.
Wow, it looks nothing like Trefzger’s in here! What an amazing transformation!
Here’s the pretty and friendly owner of this Tequila-tinged business, Christell Frausto.
Christell was born in Mexico, grew up in Chicago and moved to Peoria in 2015. She liked the economic climate here and has been involved in a variety of businesses including TequilaRia Wine & Spirits.
She says she moved to Peoria for all of the opportunity this city had to offer and she originally planned on opening up TequliaRia in April of 2020. Then Covid blew into town and caused a little bit of a hiccup in the opening and it was pushed back and opened up for business in December of 2020.
Christell said business has been great and she gives back to the community by sponsoring The South Side Soccer Club at Logan Recreation Park along with help from Central Illinois Community Foundation grants.
She told me to feel free to take a look around and take some photos in her unique shop and so that’s exactly what I’m going to do!
As you can see, this is a well-stocked store and the inventory in here is massive, as you can see from these shelves.
There’s more in this room off to the side.
Wow, I might just move in here! They have a huge selection of wine and of course…
Tequila! If you’re a tequila drinker, you need to check out TequilaRia, it’s Peoria’s only Tequila specialty store.
Here’s an article from the PJ Star featuring Christell, you can read it by clicking here.
Christell took me to the back where they’re working on what’s going to be a Chicago-styled restaurant. She said she plans on featuring Chicago food right here in Peoria including, Chicago Dogs, gyros, hamburgers and more.
It’s going to be called The River City Grill and stay tuned to MBIP for updates and an eventual Saturday night dinner from here.
This is a fantastic and unique shop that also has some non-alcohol related products for sale, so stop by and support this locally-owned specialty store and soon to be restaurant!
