It’s Friday and that means it’s time for the MBIPTGIF weekly happy hour photo shoot of a local bar and/or tavern.
City Heat is a legendary and historic Peoria dive bar. It’s been around since the mid-80’s, but it got shut down along with everything else when that rotten pandemic blew into town in that foul year of 2020. I’m not sure if it re-opened when everything else did, but I kept hearing rumors that it was going to be closing down and I kept meaning to go and check that out.
Well, last year I heard another rumor that Clay and Ethan, the owners of The Country Club BBQ on Farmington Road had bought City Heat and were going to fix it up and reintroduce it to Peoria.
That rumor turned out to be true and it opened up under their ownership last April and I’ve been meaning to stop by and check it out and so today that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
Here we are at City Heat off of Glen Avenue near War Memorial.
This is the front of the building, but to enter, you need to walk down this drive to where that classic Old Style sign is hanging…
And you enter in this side door over here.
If you know, you know…and now you know!
Wow, it looks nice in here. It still has the same City Heat vibe, but it’s definitely been cleaned up!
Crystal and Dan were the two friendly bartenders in here and they said things have been going wonderful in here since Clay and Ethan have taken this classic dive bar over and put a little shine on it.
They invited me to take some photos in here, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
Here’s two shots from either end of the bar and check out that autographed poster of Jenny McCarthy. Oh my…what a beautiful set of…eyes she has!
What a classic bar and I love how Clay and Ethan have polished up the place, but kept the nostalgic dive bar vibe alive! Nice job, fellows!
There’s Dan pouring a draft and there’s a shot of the quartet of beers on tap in City Heat.
Tina was seated at the bar and it was nice to meet her and I love her smile!
People have asked me why these happy hour posts never have a lot of people in them and it’s because I go at odd times in the afternoon. These posts are more about taking pictures and highlighting the bar itself, so it’s easier to do it when it’s not crowded.
Check out the cool gaming room opposite the bar. Stop by if you feel lucky…well, do ya punk?
There’s more games and fun in this room behind the gaming area.
This room has a golf game, a classic pool table, foosball and an electronic dart board. The bottom shot is a photo from the back of this room with chairs lining the walls.
This door next to the bar leads to a wonderful heated beer patio.
I love the fire table in the middle of this spacious covered patio room!
There’s a trio of big screen TV’s on the wall and a dart board in the corner. Very nice!
Happy Hour happens in here Monday through Friday from 2 to 5pm with cans of Busch Light for one buck and three dollar shots of McGillicudy’s!
