The Boomtown Rats summed up Mondays pefectly with this song. However, speaking of Mondays and music, there is something happening in Peoria these days to make Mondays a lot more enjoyable…well, Monday evenings that is.
What I’m talking about is Vinyl Night at The Bar At Black Band. This is a Monday evening event, hosted and curated by The River City DJ’s and it’s a weekly gathering that combines food, drink and vinyl spun tunes on a turntable for your listening enjoyment.
I went last Monday and the DJ was none other than juanGoblin and it was a fun night that made Monday evening feel like an extension of the weekend rather than the start of a mundane week.
I took photos and you can see how this Monday vinyl escapism works by scrolling along!
Here we are at Black Band on Adams Street in downtown Peoria. I’ve been meaning to come here for a long time and as Rod Stewart once crooned, tonight’s the night.
So let’s step inside and let this night of vinylness begin! Huurah!
There’s the bar and it’s a highly polished, impressive wooden square framed bar. Very nice and right away I see some familiar faces in here!
There’s David and Mae at the bar and seated next to them is Jeff! Great to see all of them and now let’s let the Monday festivities begin!
They have a special Vinyl Night Food Menu for these record spinning weekly events in here.
There’s bartender Haley serving me up a drink with a beautiful and friendly smile! This evening is off to a fabulous start!
As I made my way down the bar I ran into three quarters of the band, Super 88 who are going to be playing live at Peoria Pizza Works on April 5th.
From the back there’s, Chris, Dave and Brody. The only thing missing is their lead singer Jeff.
Meatloaf once sang that “two out of three ain’t bad,” but what do you call three out of four Super 88 members? Well, I hate to be crude here, but I call it a fucking highway heartbreak! Let’s just keep moving on along here, folks! Sheesh!
As I made my way past the bar I see the star of the evening and the man responsible for spinning the wonderful music of this Vinyl Night at the Bar At Black Band…
It’s DJ juanGoblin who’s part of the River City DJ’s who curate and host this fun weekly vinyl evening.
You can read all about the River City DJ’s by clicking here. They’re a group of seasoned and talented DJ’s that are available for events like this at bars, weddings and parties that need a fun and personalized musical vinyl element added to the evening’s fabric.
So far everyone is loving the tunes that juanGoblin is spinning and this is turning out to be a fabulous Monday evening!
They have a full-fledged working distillery in here and it’s really something to behold in person!
You can buy the products that they distill in here and they’re proudly displayed on shelves thoughout the establishment.
There’s a kitchen in the back and the food they’re preparing looks delicious and spectacular!
There’s also a dining area with a full menu happening through the week in here.
Andrew is the General Manager at Black Band and I told him I had revived my Saturnday Night Cheeseburger series and he invited me to stop by for one of their cheeseburgers that he told me has gotten rave reviews. So stay tuned for that!
Meanwhile, back at the DJ station, juanGoblin keeps the music spinning.
He’s got a personal vinyl collection of over 8,000 albums with music spanning from punk, Motown, reggae, jazz, blues, power pop, funk and everything in between!
Meanwhile, back at the bar I met Doug who’s also one of the River City DJ’s and he spins music here as well!
And he’s sitting with the missing link of Super 88, the fourth member and lead singer, Jeff!
Finally all four members of Super 88 have been found and accounted for. Time to breathe easy and relax because now all is well in our collective worlds! Whew!
Here’s some photos of the spectacular bar in here. A wonderful sight to behold and to be sitting around on a lovely musical Monday evening.
Thanks to DJ juanGoblin for the fantastic music on this fabulous Monday Vinyl Night at The Bar At Black Band!
A splendid time was had by all! I shall return and so should you! This is a weekly event, so add it to your Monday evening calendar of things to do and places to be!
