The Apollo Theatre is the oldest theatre in Peoria. It opened its doors in 1914 and it shut down in 1958. Part of the theatre was torn down to make room for…wait for it…a parking lot!
In 1988 what was left of The Apollo Theatre was refurbished and it remains standing today.
Below are some photos of The Apollo Theatre from yesterday and then some from the past. There’s also links to blog posts I’ve done on The Apollo Theatre right here on MBIP.
And I’ve not only written about The Apollo Theatre, I’ve performed there!

PHOTOS FROM YESTERDAY
I stopped by and took these photos yesterday.
Sadly, it’s neighbor, The Nut House shut down a couple of years ago. Richards Under Main also announced that they’re closing up after a year in business. It makes me wonder if the Apollo will ever open its doors again.
Time will tell, while we wait, let’s look back to the past.

PHOTOS FROM THE INTERNET OF THE APOLLO THEATRE
Here’s three black and white photos I found of the Apollo from the past. The middle one is courtesy of The Peoria Public Library.
The bottom one shows the interior of this vintage vaudevillian theatre.
This is the only color photo I could find of this classic Peoria theatre located on Main Street.
This is a flyer I found online hat they issued after the theatre was refurbished and open to the public again back in 1988.
