This rib eating tour is flying by, it seems like we just started this spicy and saucy journey, but we’re already up to week number seven. Just four to go after this one and we’ll be up to eleven…eleven?
You know who else goes to eleven…how about a little tune from Spinal Tap to start us off again!
You’re a naughty one, Saucy Jack…
Thanks, fellows! And now…
Here we are at this week’s rib destination, Dac’s Smokehouse in Morton, Illinois.
Let’s go in and begin this week’s saucy adventure!
Faith was the pretty and friendly host for the evening and she told me to go ahead into the dining room and find a table.
So that’s exactly what I did!
There’s the dining room and I think I see a familiar face in there…
It’s my friend and the special rib-eating guest star for this week, Chip Joyce!
Chip is one of the most talented people I know. He’s truly a modern day renaissance man and he’s very active in Peoria’s theater world. He’s an actor, a director, a writer, a singer, dancer and i’ve seen him in many shows and enjoyed many others that he’s directed. He’s also a graphic artist and designer and check out his website right here.
One of my favorite productions of his was a one man show he put on called, “Getting Wilder,” which was a tribute to the comedic actor, Gene Wilder. Chip wrote, produced and directed that show and it was amazing and you can read and see photos of that by clicking on this link.
Chip wears many hats in his life and has added yet another hat on his list of credentials and next month I’ll be doing a blog about that, so stay tuned for another upcoming Chip Joyce post in April!
We were checking out the menu when the owner of Dac’s, Matthew White came over to say hi.
Always a pleasure to say hi to Matthew and he had some nice things to say about the blog, which I always appreciate hearing!
Our waitress was a little shy and didn’t want her photo taken, but she took our order which signaled the time where I ditch our guest star of the evening and run around and take some photos before our dinner gets here.
I love the BBQ humor in here and they have hot sub sandwiches on the menu now!
There’s a nice bar in the back of the dining room and it’s well stocked!
Here’s the quartet of beers on tap back here.
The fire adds a nice ambience to the room and Yoda is enjoying it. Love that Mortonopoly game next to Yoda!
Meanwhile, back at our table, our appetizer order of corn fritters have arrived and they look absolutely fabulous!
There’s Chip digging in and these corn fritters are dusted with powdered sugar and are a sweet treat! We’re off to a fabulous start here!
Now for the main courses, our rib dinners!
We each got a half a slab of their St. Louis Styled Ribs and Chip got the Cheesy Corn and Loaded Mashed Potatoes for his sides and I got the Cole Slaw and Onion Rings.
Everything looks so delicious, let’s dig in to this feast of food!
The onion rings are homemade, crispy, seasoned to perfection and so tasty!
Now on to the star of the show, the St. Louis Style Ribs!
Wow, these are so tasty and tender! What a fabulous smoky and savory flavor!
Chip raved about the ribs and said they were definitely top notch!
They have 16 different house-made sauces to choose from here and I tried the Nashville Hot Sauce and it took the ribs to a fantastic flavor level! So tasty and delicious!
After dinner Chip was awarded this hot sauce for being mentioned in this MSOL video!
Thanks to Chip for being this week’s special guest star and look for him in an upcoming post which will feature him in his latest work environment!
We’ve had some fantastic ribs on this tour, but so far, Dac’s Smokehouse is at the very top of the list with their fabulous St. Louis Style Ribs.\
I’ll give their ribs a very high rating of 10.8, this will be a tough score to beat!
They were fall off the bone tender, tasty and such a treat! Thanks to Matthew and everyone there for the fabulous dinner and friendly hospitality!
