As John Lennon sang in Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy): "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." Such has been the case for me during my brief sabbatical from contributing here at MBIP. Without going into detail, let me suffice by saying, it certainly has been interesting. My “passion” of photography had even taken a back seat to all the recent events.
Now that things have (somewhat) settled down a bit, it's time for a return. I did manage to visit a few “new” abandoned places and one in particular, thanks to a friend of mine, was especially interesting to say the least. An abandoned farm and house, which we spent a (rare, rainless as of late) afternoon “exploring.” Walking inside (wearing masks, no less) it was something I truly wanted to photograph and I did. From the 1957 Chevy two door hardtop in the garage (which can be seen through the window in one of the shots), to the old rotary phone, typewriter and TV with spider webs connecting the “rabbit ears,” to the mountains of old Chicago Sun Times and Chicago Tribune newspapers in an old barn. Without digging too deep (literally), it was the headlines of “days gone by” that immediately attracted my attention. I decided not to caption these photos this time, and rather let the images speak for themselves, much in the same way I first saw them. I don't know what is to become of this place, but feel fortunate to have gotten inside and captured some of these images. (now if I can only get the smell and taste out of my mouth...)
Whoever said "you can never go home", was wrong, I am, and it's good to be back. I have missed all of you. Thanks for “leaving the light on” for me.
