Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger, starring this week’s host, Double A’s Pizza • Sports Bar And Grill and featuring the Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, all the from Willow Knoll’s Road, please welcome, Double A’s Pizza • Sports Bar And Grill!
And we're off, heading towards yet another cheeseburger on a Saturday night.
Double A's is located just off of Willow Knolls Road up here.
Here we are at Double A's, as you can see, it's a pretty massive building here on the corner.
I like the neon in the windows here.
Let's go in and let this Saturday Night Cheeseburger episode begin!
Okay, there's two guys at one end of the bar and two blondes at the other end, I think I'll sit closer to the two blondes. Who knows, maybe we'll see more of them as this night progresses, stay tuned and keep on scrolling down!
As soon as we sit down an ice-cold bottle of Budweiser is served up by Josh, the bartender. Josh is a great guy and it turns out he's friends with my cousin, David Wombacher. Which forces me to cue up, "It's A Small World After All." Sorry about that!
They have six types of burgers on the menu, so I asked Josh for a suggestion and he recommended the "Firsco Melt." I placed the order, so let's take a look around while it gets cooked and plated.
This is the view of the bar from where I'm seated.
Here's the tap shot for the Spike-O-Meter rating, but I think Spike is on vacation, so we may not be hearing from him today. You out there, Spike?
Here's another view of the bar, you seeing the TV's in here, Gene?
There's a large dining area opposite the bar.
Hey, check out the award, let's see what it's for...
The best pizza of 2012, wow, we'll have to go try that the next time we stop in here.
As you can see, it gets a little batty in here in certain places.
There's lots of game day specials in here for all of you sports fans out there!
They have a daily luncheon buffet here in the back.
Booths line the front wall, opposite the main dining room.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
It looks like it's just about cheeseburger time!
Right on cue, here's Josh with this week's cheeseburger!
Here's a bird's eye view shot of the meal. It comes with homemade potato chips and buffalo ranch dipping sauce which I took a taste of...
And proceeded to dump it on top of the burger.
Delicious! You can read more about it in the review below.
And I told you if you kept scrolling you'd get to meet those two blondes at the end of the bar and here they are with Josh, the bartender. From left it's Nicki and LIsa. They were really nice and we had a great conversation, but then it was time for them to call it a night.
So I had one more beer, took this obligatory bar room mirror shot and called it a night myself. We'll see you all tomorrow!
My Cheeseburger
Double A’s features a half a dozen burgers in the “Tailgate Grill” section of their menu. I asked Josh to recommend one for me, and he said they were all great burgers (of course he did!) but he liked the Frisco Melt the best, so that’s what I ordered. The burger arrived and it’s a half pound of beef topped with both Swiss and American cheese. It’s housed in between two pillowy-soft pieces of sourdough bread. It was the bread that really won me over on this burger, bakery fresh and just lightly grilled. If you get the homemade potato chips with this, I suggest you pour the buffalo ranch dipping sauce over the burger, it really made it tasty. (The burger usually comes with 1000 Island dressing, but I can’t stand 1000 Island dressing, so I told them to skip it on my burger.)
Other burgers include: Chedddar Bacon, BBQ Bacon, Jalapeno Kick and The Double A’s Classic which is your standard burger served with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and your choice of cheese. There’s also sandwiches, salads, wings and their award winning pizza on the menu to sample at Double A’s.
Cheeseburger Rating
Two and a half Wimpy’s, a good and solid cheeseburger.
