Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s the Saturday Night Festival of Shrimp, starring The Fish House and featuring the Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now please welcome this week’s host, The Fish House!
Off we go into the darkness, but there's light ahead.
I parked the MBIP Moblie and as I got out I saw two familiar faces, it's Jason and Brittany who we met when we were getting pizza at No Wake Zone. This was their first time to The Fish House and they were impressed by the food and the ambiance and said they would indeed be returning. Great to see them again!
There's The Fish House, let's go in and let our Saturday night begin!
I love the bar in here, I think it's Peoria's darkest bar and it's definitely an Al approved bar!
As I settle in to the bar, the first beer is served up by the dueling bartenders of the evening, Emily and Paul. I call this shot, "The Beauty and The Beast!"
Down at the end of the bar are Tony and Deb, the owners of Khaki Jack's, a frequent watering hole here on MBIP. Great to see both of them and of course we must cue this up now!
Ben was enjoying a drink at the bar and he's a Fish House regular.
Don't let the empty tables behind the bar deceive you, it's near closing time, so most people have gone home, but Paul said it was packed earlier.
I've noted before that this is my favorite table in the corner over here in the bar room.
There's one couple left in the spacious dining room as closing time is near. I got the last dinner order in. I've taken so many photos in here so I decided to do something different tonight. I've surrendered the MBIP camera to Emily and Paul and so we begin...
Emily and Paul are taking some behind the scenes shots from here on in, let's see what they come up with.
This is a shot of the stained glass behind the bar. The guy pictured in the stained glass is the Greek God, Fishynostramadous, the God of all things aquatic. I'm hoping he stops staring at me when my dinner arrives.
Paul told me that this is a shot of their Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey lineup.
Templeton Rye is a whiskey that Al Capone featured at his speakeasy's and Great Lakes has a lager named after Eliot Ness, who was on the other side of the law at that time. Paul told me that they encourage people to have a shot of Templeton with a chaser of Eliot Ness.
Paul took this shot of Gary who was doing hosting duty for the evening.
Emily took this photo of Paul who said he's cutting back on his drinking. He's down to just one bottle of wine a night. Cheers!
Emily's back...
And she's mixing up a Blueberry Acai Martini which she and Paul declare the world’s healthiest martini.
The martini is poured...
And served up to Sarah at the bar.
Paul snapped a shot of Kendall delivering our Saturday night dinner. At this point I took the MBIP camera back. Time for me to take back control of this post, but thanks to Emily and Paul for the behind the scenes Fish House photos!
I was hungry for shrimp, so I ordered up a Festival of Shrimp for tonight's dinner.
We'll start off with a shrimp cocktail.
The shrimp were chilled, snappy and delicious and the cocktail sauce was really tasty.
For the main course I got the Shrimp Platter which features a tasty trio of shrimp: stuffed, broiled and fried.
As you can see, the shrimp here live up to the oxymoron, "jumbo shrimp."
For a side dish I got the Shrimp Dijon which is shrimp in a creamy rich cheese sauce. It was so good!
After dinner Justin who owns The Fish House and manages the kitchen came out and joined us for a beer at the bar.
Okay, either Justin's grown a foot or Tony's rapidly shrinking...you make the call and we'll see you all tomorrow!
My Meal
I had a Festival of Shrimp at The Fish House and it was very festive and extremely tasty. I started out with a shrimp cocktail which was serve chilled and the shrimp had a nice snap and flavor to them. The cocktail sauce was tasty and sharp, but it didn’t overwhelm the shrimp like some cocktail sauces do. For the main course I had the Shrimp Platter which offers up a trio of shrimp to sample. There’s stuffed shrimp, broiled shrimp and fried shrimp on the platter. All had their own unique taste and the platter is served with melted butter and cocktail sauce for shrimp dipping at its finest hour. The Shrimp Dijon is actually an appetizer, but I ordered it as a side dish. It’s one of the few items on the Fish House menu I’ve never sampled. It’s fresh shrimp in a decadent creamy and rich cheese sauce. Shrimp plus melted cheese equals delicious! If you like shrimp, you need to go directly to The Fish House and tell them you want a Festival of Shrimp! Tell them MBIP sent you!
