The other week when we were at The Fish House, I ran into Tony and Deb who own Khaki Jack’s, which is a frequent stop on the MBIP rotating bar list. Tony invited us to stop by for a pizza sometime and I didn’t even realize they had pizza on their menu. So, tonight we’re cashing in that invitation and we’ll be enjoying our 39th pizza on this cheesy tour at Khaki Jack’s!
Here we are at Khaki Jack's, which is handily located right down the street from MBIP World Headquarters so it'll be an easy trip home when we're done.
Let's go in and start week number 39 of this magical Year Of Pizza!
There's a good sized crowd here at the bar...hey, I think I recognize the back of that head...
It's Khaki Jack regular and MBIP pal, Pete. There's been very few times I've been in Khaki Jack's and Pete wasn't down here at the end of the bar, always good to see him and have a chat.
Here's Pete with his better half, his pretty wife Stephanie. Great to see both of them!
Leah and Reeve were down at this end of the bar as well and they happily posed for the MBIP camera. Cheers!
Always great to see Joni in here, she's one of the prettiest and friendliest waitresses in the entire universe!
Ha! John the bartender serves up a bottle of Budweiser along with the traditional one finger salute.
Here's Tony, MBIP pal and the owner of this fine establishment! I ordered my pizza and Tony said we could go back to the kitchen and get a glimpse of it being constructed.
Here's the kitchen, we've been back here before, in fact this is where we nuked Gumby and he caught fire. Poor Gumby!
All the action seems to be down there at the end of the room, let's go back there...
Meet Mike, who's the chef on duty tonight and he's going to be making the 39th pizza pie of our tour.
A large pile of fresh cheese is piled on top of Khaki Jack's pizza sauce and crust, it's looking good already!
Pete's wife Stephanie suggested I get the pizza with green peppers, onions and sausage, so that's what I ordered. This way if it sucks it's all her fault, you can't blame me!
Mike gently slides it into the oven and while that cooks we'll take a look around in Khaki Jack's.
Here's the dining room which has tables and wooden booths line the walls. It's not too full as I've come here late, but Tony said it was packed during the peek dinner hour tonight.
There's the famous and colorful Khaki Jack mural on the back wall.
There's a shark up here in the ceiling and Tony told me he's had him for over twenty years and it shows—the poor fellow has no teeth! I need to talk to my friends at ASDC to see if they can set him up with some choppers!
There's also flags, beer signs and a ceiling fan up here in the rafters of Khaki Jack's.
As you can see there's a huge selection of bottled beer to be had here at Khaki Jack's and there's another beer cooler at the far end of the bar. If you can think it, you can can drink it here at Khaki Jack's...or something like that, I'm not sure I just made that up and I'm still half asleep...so let's just move along.
There's a tin ceiling above the bar with lamps hanging underneath illuminating it.
Okay, we're back at my spot at the bar and check out the impressive display of hot sauces! Now they know what they're doing here, very nice! And check out the bottle of Frank's down there at the end! I think old Frank might have to go see a doctor, it looks like he's got a thyroid gone out of whack!
Here it is, pizza pie number 39 and it looks and smells fantastic! I think I made a wise decision in taking Stephanie's suggestion!
Now a slice is placed on a plate and we begin the ever-important cooling process which gives us an excuse to get another beer.
This is really good pizza here at Khaki Jack's. The crust is thin and crispy, the sauce has a nice flavor and zing to it and the toppings are tasty and fresh. And they've got one of the best hot sauce collections in town!
I got about halfway through the pie and I'm stuffed! We'll have plenty of pizza for the next day cold pizza challenge.
I thought I'd work off that pizza by doing a few laps around the bar and ran into Sue and Chris. Sue was familiar with MBIP and told me she sends facecrack updates about MBIP to her mother-in-law. Very cool! They were out celebrating Chris' 55th birthday. Double nickels! Happy birthday to Chris! Great to meet both of them!
Here's Tony with another Khaki Jack regular Mark. Tony and I started talking about how we met when I was doing my 365 bar crawl blog and you can read that post right here. Then Tony took out his wallet and showed me something...
It's the original 365 Bars card! I don't even have one of these and it was cool that Tony still has one! In our conversation we also learned that both of us, along with Pete have something in common...
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, The Flip Phone Brothers! We may be the last trio of real men refusing to surrender to the zombie-inducing "smartphones." Long may we run! Thanks to Tony and all the great folks on both sides of the bar at Khaki Jack's, it's always a blast there!
Alright, it's the next day, I'm a dollar shorter and it's time for the cold pizza challenge. And yes, the craft beer corner of the MBIP fridge is still empty! I promise I'll correct that next week! And now it's time for some cold pizza...
It's delicious! Thanks again to everyone at Khaki Jack's for a wonderful evening and we'll see you all tomorrow!
