Last week I got a couple of comments on facecrack about Dave’s Pizza in Bartonville:
Well, to prove that I take requests here at MBIP, it’s off to Dave’s we go. And I’m curious as to what the hell a “Zilla” is, so we’ll be sampling that as well as the pizza there. Let me get some “dough” and then we’ll “roll.” I’m crackin’ myself up over here, I tell ya!
Here we are at Dave's Pizza in Bartonville. It took a couple of passes on Garfield to find the place because there's not a sign out on the road for it. I was a little concerned because it's getting a little late in the evening, but the sign in the window says, "Open..."
So let's go in and let the fourth week of pizza begin!
As soon as you walk in you enter the dining room, which has a nice, comfortable atmosphere. Being that it's near closing time, there's just one person in here, let's go say hi to her.
This is Beth, who told me she's a regular here. After some discussion I learned that she's the aunt of MBIP pal and owner of Kenny's Westside Pub, Sean Kenny. Oh how I hate to do this, but it's time to cue up, "It's A Small World After All." Sorry about that!
Beth told me her picture's on the wall and sure enough, there it is!
Here's the area I was looking for, the bar! If you're 21 years of age or older, follow me! If you're under 21-years-old, please redirect yourself here.
Okay, let's go in and see what's going on in the bar.
It's a small but nice little bar in here and very highly polished, and it looks like we've got the place to ourselves...I just hope it's not too late to order a pizza!
Bartender Bob serves up an ice-cold can of Budweiser and told me that it's not too late to order up a pizza. Okay, we're in business!
And here's the owner of Dave's, Dave! Dave told me he's been making pizzas here in Bartonville for over 27 years. I told him I had gotten requests for me to come here on facecrack and he said he's got a very loyal following.
A row of lights hang over the bar and illuminate it.
A ceiling fan looms over the lights up above the bar.
I"m seated right in the middle of the bar, it's nice and cozy in here.
Here's their lineup of hot sauces, pizza time is just around the corner!
And it appears we've turned the corner as Dave serves up this week's pizza pie!
Wow, it looks great. Dave told me everything is made fresh on the premises.
I got the "Combo" pizza which has pepperoni, sausage, green pepppers, onions and mushrooms. This is a great pizza, the crust is thin, but has a nice texture to it and the toppings are more than generous.
Okay, now it's time to turn our attention towards the mysterious, "Zilla" sandwich. Here it is and this is one big sandwich. The bread is made fresh daily here at Dave's and it smells amazing!
Here's the Zilla uncovered. Dave said it's his recipe and it's basically a mix of a Gondola sandwich and pizza bread.
Wow, this is one amazing sandwich! In addition to the pizza sauce and toppings there's ham, cheese and salami. the bread is fresh and soft and it's delicious.
The pizza was good, but this is all I can eat for tonight's sitting, we're going to have plenty for the next day's cold pizza tasting!
And I could only handle about three bites of the monster Zilla sandwich! This thing could feed at least four people! Looks like I'm well-stocked for food for the next couple of days!
And the next day has arrived, let's see how Dave's Pizza stands up to the next day cold for breakfast challenge!
It's equally as tasty the next day. Thanks to Michael Starcevic and Becky Jordan Johnson for suggesting Dave's, it was a great spot for this fourth week of a year of pizza! We'll see you all tomorrow!
Pizza Rating
Three and a half Chef Boyardees—really great pizza and you need to try the Zilla too, it’s an amazing sandwich. Dave also told me that the fried chicken there is fantastic, so we will be back!
